^ Yes indeed, great shots there !

Seeing that shot from the nose, and imagining being up there while under fire from the ground and from other aircraft, flak bursts, with just that plexiglass nosecone...newfound respect for those who put it all out there.

I'm mainly here for the snacks

One of my granddaughters graduated today. She will be going to college in Utah on a scholarship this fall.

Looks like my niece is the same age as your granddaughter. He graduation isn't until the 7th, looks like we'll be making a road trip to NorCal in couple of weeks. She also got herself a scholarship but gets to stay fairly close to home(UC Davis, and sister lives in Benicia).

Julian, thanks for sharing your flight aboard the "Nine O Nine". Excellent photos. I hope you don't mind but I shared the link to your series of photos with a small group that remain of B-17 enthusiasts. At one time, we had a very large following for a B-17 flight simulation game titled "B-17 Flying Fortress the mighty 8th".

Howdy Rezcar,

Could you toss us a Google map view of the San Pedro area that you are referring to? I'm interested in the location, maybe even this weekend sometime :D.

Thanks! Dave

Hey Dave! I wasn't referring to any specific spot. Just that San Pedro has an entire coastline with many more places to shoot rocks and such. I need to get back out there soon

definitely, a lot to discover there. I've been there so many times now, but it's like I'm discovering new stuff every time.

Hehe. I wish I had a chance to go up to the nose earlier in the flight. There was some journalist from Santa Barbara doing an article on these flights as promotion (since SB was an upcoming tour destination) and she and her photographer HOGGED up like 5-10 minutes of nose cone time. (They only allow a certain number of people in the front of the plane at any given time.) I was lucky to even get the shots that I was able to get. Wish I had time to look through the norden bombsight.

What surprised me was how small the bomb bay was. They didn't really get to carry that many bombs. Carrying a 10-men crew and god knows how many gallons of fuel just to drop a dozen bomb per plane or so. And the obscenely high casualty/loss rate.

Definitely a different time.

At the Chino Airshow, they had a former B-17 ball-turret gunner recounting his experience. Citing that the first time he saw flak, it was the most beautiful sight he had ever seen, that is until people started falling out of the skies.

Thanks guys. :D

I got a little motion sickness 2/3 of the way into the flight so I just ended up taking it easy and enjoying the flight experience instead of looking for more photos to be taken.
