Talk about some blasts from the past Butch!!! I haven't seen Lauren in way too long lol

I know, right... Need to change that, soon... And I'm still jealous that you and Mike were able to go 'heli-hopping' around the LA area... Great shots, though... Love the 'foot out of the heli' capture above LAX... Hehehe... Classic...

:D

Looking forward to hearing from you!

BTW, nice library of "EXCELLENT" shots on your flickr pages. Very Impressive.

^^ There's a few photogs here that deserves those kind words certainly not me but I thank you, Sir. Much appreciated coming from a fella shooter  ^^

And here's someone that I admired as his work is impeccable and always fun to shoot with...

Putin, you cross the line and I'll unleash this 200 f1.8L warhead... ;)

also for anyone that has not heard yet. Calumet filed for bankruptcy so their shops are all closed now and the website appears to be dead. I used to go to the Santa Ana store as I found it better staffed then at Sammys but now I dont really have a choice for a B&M store.

that confused me too. I am very very new to flashes, so why point the flash up to the sky, there is nothing to bounce off or does the diffuser actually spread some light that way? Just seems useless to me.

Wow, I was just in the Escondido store a few weeks ago to pick up a small rocket blower. It was right at closing time and they had shut down the registers and with how busy I've been with work haven't had a chance to stop back by yet.

It was pretty much the only real camera store I ever went to but I usually only bought small items, I think I only bought 1 lens from them and that was several years ago(pretty much all of my high dollar camera items have been online for the past couple of years).

the way it's set up acts like a light source. so it spreads out :)

A lot of folks don't care for the Fong diffuser because even though it does spread out the light, you could consider it "inefficient" in doing so, since the light is spread all over the place. So, a lot of people prefer a more "directional bounce"...in fact, the Canon 580 EX speedlights have a built-in flash card that can be used for either some fill or for adding "catch lights" when shooting people.

And then, there has been a lot of playing with "portable" flash accessories, ones that you can take out and use with a minimum amount of fuss. In fact you might check out this "Better Bounce" site if interested:

Just playing around shooting birds in flight using the Sony a7r with the 24-70 lens. :D

You may want to view this on my Flickr page. Still, that's only 2560x1589 instead of 7320x4568.

I use something similar for bouncing off of a card. Heard many stories of incorrect use with the fong diffuser

The Fong-cup-O-noodle diffuser is useful in a smaller room where you can bounce light off ceiling and 2-4 walls depending on where you're standing. This can soften up the light and illuminate the environment/background more evenly.

But outside... well, IMO, it's just a cup-O-noodle cup. Better to take that speedlight and throw an umbrella reflector or even shoot through umbrella.

Perhaps he was taking a close facial portrait and didn't want an umbrella-shaped catchlight in the eyeball? :)
