Well, I enjoyed using both but the a7r was more of a challenge because I was manually focusing. Between that and the slow shutter speeds, I had more keepers from the 5D3.

I see.. interesting. for me its the opposite. id get better focus with the a7r versus the d800e :P I'm becoming to like EVF over optical view.

I just recently acquired an rx100m3 (sonys high end p&s) and have been using it. this was from last night :)

Caught 3 meteors in this one. Of course the nicest one I saw happened outside the field of view where the camera was set up.

Thanks! This one was 22 shots or so at 20 sec. each. Total was close to 100 shots but the meteors show up better with less star trailing. Wish I could've captured the one that got away, at first I thought someone had fired a flare gun or something.

This one was a single image at 20 sec.

You go up to Joshua Tree this past week, Owen? Nicely done!

Nicely done Owen. I see that you used an a7s for at least one of your long exposure shots. The image looks very clean. Were you pleased with the results it gave you?

Dean, yeah that was Saturday night. It was cold!

Gene. You're to blame on sending me that link to the camera! The noise is much cleaner and because I can shoot at a higher iso, I can get a shorter and less elongated shot.
Plus full electronic shutter +time lapse equals less wear. I didn't do that for these as quality degrades a little.

Charlie, I'm just testing so I am using a wired remote. I think el matador is closer but may take the same amount of time, lol. Evidently I can see the milky way from Laguna beach in the summer as well. But neither is going to be as clear or awesome as a true dark spot.

Being away from all the stupid tourists is nice too.

I think I saw the same one you're talking about, I just happen to to be in the back yard facing northish when I notice a flash in the sky fallowed by the normal streak bellow it. I would have loved to see it would have showed in a photo. I image it must have been even more impressive to see the darker skies where you were as well.

Yes, I need to rig up a bunch of cameras to cover a 360 degree field of view next time! I also missed a couple because the camera was in write mode to the card. Grrr.

turn off long exposure noise reduction, guessing that's what write mode you're talking about. 20 second exposure, 20 second write.... does that sound like it?
