FILTERS FILTERS FILTERS!!! Hehehe... GND... Hard Edge... 0.6 grade or higher... Uhm... CPL may be useful, as well... Tripod and wired or wireless shutter release for long exposures... Uhm... Oh... Snacks and water if you're going to be 'exploring' around... Hope that helps some... Hehehe..

:)

PS. Be safe if you're close to the edge... PLEASE!!!

Yeah. I was telling the guys yesterday, i ordered a slingshot bag to carry around. I have a Big Stopper now (although don't know if that will be useful). Got a CPL. I'll be taking my tripod and triggers, of course. And I found a 0.6 GND for sale in the marketplace that I'm about to pull the trigger on.

I don't do "the edge"...I'm happy to walk around the marked paths and lookout points.

^ If the clouds are moving fast over GC, the Big Stopper will come in handy to capture the movement... Food for thought... Last time I went to GC (2003), all I brought was a P&S camera... In hindsight, I should've brought my dSLR... Womp womp!!!

:(

I went back and looked at what I took when i went and it was the only gearI had. Original rebel, kit 18-55 and 75-300. Decent quality but no great eye. I think if I were to go back it would change dramatically!

Last time I was there was 1994. Long before digital photography and long before I did anything photography related. So this is all new to me.

Having said that, I'm pretty happy with the gear I'll be taking. I'm mostly interested in pointers like where to go for the best views, etc. Beyond the obvious lookout points, I mean.

My plan, as of right now, is to drive from one end to the other following the rim road, stopping where I can to park for a bit, and walk the area along the rim. From what I hear, even walking a few hundred yards from the "touristy spots" will get you away from the crowds of people and still provide great vistas.
Of course, I'm hoping the weather cooperates. Ideally, I want some cloud movement, but not a grey dull overcast cover.
I'll also have 2 sunsets (we're there 2 nights), so I am trying to figure out how to time it so that on both evenings, I am at a spot that's facing the correct way for a good sunset shot.
We're also going to try and hit up the Wupatki National Monument (it's on the way from Flagstaff to GC), and possibly Sedona (on day 2 maybe)...Which, looking at Google, looks like it has a decent amount of photo ops (Cathedral rock, etc.).

Gearwise, I'll be taking the 6D, 24-105, 70-200 with me at all times (hence the slingshot bag). I'll also have the 100, 50 and 28 primes with me on the trip, but I'm thinking I may leave those in the big bag at the hotel, or in the car as I don't foresee needing them all that much.
I'll also have my tripod, my remote YN triggers, the flash (probably not needed), a CPL for each lens size, the big stopper and Lee filter holder. And I have a 0.6 Grad on the way. I still do need a filter pouch thingie to carry my various filters on my belt for quick and easy access.

adorama filter pouch.... I like it better than the lee version, since it attaches to the belt, quick and fast access.

Lee version holds a ton though.

Does it come with sleeves or separators so my filters won't get scratched bumping against each other in there?
