Any suggestions on a canon camera for underwater?

Mar 01, 2014 19:16 | #4 I bought a used G11 and the Canon housing for it a few years ago, and it has served me well. Just recently upgraded with an Ikelite DS-51 strobe, which has really made the photos much better. Anything in the G series should be relatively inexpensive for the camera + housing. When you get into DSLR housings, the prices are sometimes higher than the camera itself! Rob

I had an S100 and Canon underwater housing before that had served me well for snorkeling in Maui, but the zoom/speed of a true DSLR is tough to beat. Before you buy a separate camera only for underwater, do some recon work into what a quality housing for your existing camera will cost, it might be worth a try.
