As Springtails go, this is quite a large one (4mm approx). A characteristic feature of this species of Springtail is the enormous length of its antenna (much longer than its body size). I found this specimen under a rotting leaf.
A profile view showing the pseudo Elizabethan / punk-like, spiky neck ruff around its neck. Rather like the casual manner in which the antenna is resting and curving round the edge of the leaf.
Quite pleased that I managed to get the whole of the Springtail in this capture. Not an easy task bearing in mind the length of its antenna, not to mention the fact that it just wouldn't keep still!
