Question - does upgrading the camera firmware erase all custom fn menu settings ?

Thanks in advance !

Usually not. But sometimes the things that can be set up with custom functions change due to the new firmware, and then the camera may have to reset things, in order to start from a valid configuration.

The last 1DX firmware added setting range to existing custom functions and added some totally new custom functions. Thus some settings had to change, but still most of them remained (at least for me).

It has never done that in mine. I'm currently running firmware 1.1.4 in a 1D4; 1.3.2 in a 1D3; and 1.2.3 in a 1DS3. I assume these are the latest firmware updates.
