I'm just making up my list for my next ("landscape") shopping trip, and I'm hung up on the polariser situation.

I'll be picking up a Zeiss 21mm, Lee Foundation Holder Kit, Lee 82 mm Wide Angle Adapter Ring (for the new Zeiss and my 24-70), a Lee 4x4 Big Stopper 10 Stop ND Filter, and maybe another filter set to play with.

The Lee 105 mm Circular Polarizer Filter is grotesquely priced, and I'd need to buy the accessory ring (I think). $600 to add a polariser to my rig? I don't see the value in that.

I could go with the 100 x 100mm Square Polariser (which I think could be rotated just fine in tandem with any solid ND filter, or on its own), but this option leaves me grumbling as well (at almost $400). I think I'd rather pay the $600 to get something that could be rotated independently.

I'm new to square filters. Historically I've always used screw-in filters. None of my screw-ins are large enough for my current lenses (or the Zeiss), hence the system change. Maybe I'm missing something in my interpretation of how I should be using the 100mm Lee system for landscapes?

For those of you who are using the Lee 100mm filter system, how are you utilizing polarisers with the system? I consider polarisers incredibly important for landscape photography: ultimately more important than ND filters. Historically I've always run a polariser.

Well, in fact CPL is the least or say the third i use for landscapes after GND and ND, so it is not a big deal for me to use it or not, and even if i use it i really don't care much to rotate it for my like, i just place it there and shoot.

There are some cheap options for CPL if you would like to try, i have LEE 4x4 CPL and i did use it today for waterscape shots, and from the LCD the results are amazing until i can check out on my computer later.

Look at this one, maybe this will be a good one to try:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_Circular_Polarizing.html (external link)

Be careful, both are 4mm thickness, so be sure you have 4mm slot on your holder.

And those 2 are over $100 but under $200, give them a look

Or, if you can get and save more budget in the future then check out another options here included the above:

Thanks, so much, for your feedback!

In the end . . . I totally chickened out. All of the bits and pieces of the Lee System freaked me out a bit, and as I don't actually use grads, it was way too easy to just go with 82mm circular screw-in filters.

I opted for a Heliopan slim polarizer and a Genustech Eclipse Variable ND.

In the event exposure stacking doesn't work out for me, I'll have to go with the Lee System and learn how to use grads and post process the images created by them. The two filters I purchased would still be suitable for my "run and gun" 24-70, so it isn't a total waste.

If you are already using Lee get the 4x4 CPL. definately dont get the 105 circular as 90 degree increments is fine for the 4x4 - https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=883069

Its £150 in the UK so roughly $250 US

EDIT - Just saw you didnt buy Lee so ignore my post

I'll do nothing of the sort. ;)

I'm sure I'll move to the Lee System someday (when I decide I need to use grads, or the limitations of a variable ND get to me). The information is filed away. Thank you.

I use the Cokin Z Pro system. Basically the same as Lee in terms of size and usability. You can use the Lee filters with it, or filters from other manufacturers.
