Price of used 100mm L IS macro

I have an EF 100mm L f2.8 IS macro lens that I am considering selling. It was on my 60D when it was stolen 1½ years ago, and when the police recovered it, the hood was no longer attached. I don't use it, and I still have and love my 60mm f2.8, so it's really just been doing nothing. Considering that it was out of my hands for 6 months, it is still in very good shape, with just a slight crack in the plastic window over the distance dial that was there when it was returned. It works perfectly, no damage to any of the optics or electronics, has both caps.

I'm at something of a loss trying to decide what sort of a price to put on it. I see one on Ebay - mint condition with hood and pouch for $879 from Hong Kong. What I wonder is, how much are the hood, pouch, and box really worth? I don't want to undervalue it or make someone think that they are getting stolen goods just because I don't have the accessories. The lens is registered with Canon.

It depends on where you plan on selling it. If you list it on e-bay and describe it accurately people will still bid. I'm sure many will be interested no matter your method of selling. Personally, I value having all accessories included (box too) because it shows me people care for their items. Of course your situation is different due to the stolen merchandise. I wouldn't worry about any trouble listing and selling it. I estimate most seeking the lens would still value it at $700 + with the crack and w/o accessories.

Buy a hood and youre good

you can look on the sell forum here to see what they've been going for. i just bought one for $750. it's in great condition but no hood, box or bag. I don't really care about those anyway. I can get a hood from B&H for like $45 if i wanted. I missed out on some great deals at $750 with all the accessories.

I bought one recently for 800 here, lens was immaculate with all the accessories and boxes and warranty card and seller paid for shipping (and had it packed by UPS)

Has anyone ever had an issue making the cash for product exchange through the forum here? I guess I'm a bit uncomfortable when it's not a face to face deal. I've never dealt with Ebay, and only a couple of times with Craig's List when I could meet the seller face to face (or in the one case I was meeting the buyer where I sold my 17-40), and set up the meet in a public place.

I'm going to be back in the US for a month and was considering trying to sell it then. I won't be free all of the time to just meet with someone.

In the U.S. sometime with some type of rebate and discount, you can get a new one from an authorized dealer for around $800. I got one.

This should give you some ideas how much a used one in your condition can go for.
