Similar issue here. I called and talked to em about my 1DsMkII, shipped it to them the same day. They got it the 26 of Feb and almost immediately wanted the standard repair charge paid before they could proceed. I paid that and waited. And waited, a week went by without a work...no estimate of parts needed or anything whatsoever. Today I got an email saying it shipped. That's it, not any explanation at all. It shipped, here's the tracking number. FedEx is supposed to deliver it tomorrow. Will there be an explanation included with the camera? Will it be fixed? Do I have to track Santa down so he can ask The Easter Bunny to question Elvis?

There should be a (somewhat) detailed list of services in the packing material when you receive it back.

I never had much issue with CPS/Canon repair, but my buddy did... First it took longer than expected to log-in the items (for CPS Gold that is) and took a week to start the repair, and they were going to ship it off to the west coast for whatever reason to another person with the same last name... Thankfully he caught it before they did ship it out. The fact they were going to ship it to someone else blew me away though... They claimed they don't know how that could have happened, but it was obviously a careless person checking the items in and nobody else to verify.

I have had generally good experiences with both repair and time (usually same week I ship it out I get it back). The quality of repairs can be hit/miss though. Depends on the tech, I suppose.

While Canon has the best repair service in the industry it appears, it can still be improved for sure. Better repair tracking progress, more detailed repair information (it would take the tech all of 20 seconds to write a nice detailed service summary versus the short hand "cleaned cmos/chk'd factory spec, front back focus" or whatever they do now... its terrible.

Also, to give the techs more time to do the repair right the first time (I have had to send items back second and third times, as have many other people) and better QC check before going out the door. Verify its working 100% and the issue it was originally sent in for was corrected.

I would like to thank all those whom took the time to respond.
Today, (3/7/2014) After being told that the tech could find no trouble with my camera (2/3/2014 ?) and if I wanted to send in all my lenses and mem cards that I use with the camera that they would further investigate. I declined that and asked to send the camera back asap. After seeing nothing on my e-mail I called again to find out that the tech had indeed amazingly found some "foreign substance" in the sensor and I would be getting my camera back sometime this week depending on what day it was shipped out.
I'm sorry, but I feel a company such as Canon Corp. could do a little better job at keeping the customer in formed as to what is going on and what the decisions are that have to made for a timely repair of their equipment.

I just got the 1DsMkII back today, the paper included said they put in a new shutter and a new pcb assembly, motor drive. They didn't charge me anything over the initial labor charge. This being said, my shutter count still reads 76395. So is it a new shutter or isn't it? I know they reset everything in the camera to default. Fortunately I copied the settings to a Micro Drive before I sent it, now to see if it puts the camera back like I had it set up...never done that before.

They had the camera for a week, so much for 3 day turnaround time. I'm a Gold CPS member, which got me a discount, but no communication and some confusion to say the least. Will let y'all know if the camera is truly back in working order. Sure wish the shutter count were reset so I'd KNOW it was new, or at least reset. As it is, with no charges, no visible change in count numbers, well, I don't feel real confident.

I just had excellent service from the Canon facility in Irvine. Diagnosed and repaired a focus assembly in my 70-200 f4 is, and had it back in less than a week under warranty service. Excellent communication in every step of the process. Very happy with how well they took care of me.

Canon service is really hit or miss. Some people have amazing experiences with the process and others don't.

I sent in a 5D Mark II for a bent pin issue and no power issue (I think the bent pin shorted out the camera) and I got the camera back after 9 days. It came back working and turning on, but the CF pins were still bent in the slot.

I called them back and explained the situation and the rep stated that she did see that the bent pins were mentioned in my original description of the problem. They paid for the shipping back to the repair center and it took another 9 days for them to replace the main board to fix the pin issue.

Seemed like a repair tech just didn't read the problem fully and fixed only the first thing he/she saw. In the meantime I was out a camera for 18 days.
