Hi all...

So i went ahead and sold my 70-200 2.8 non is and grabbed a 70-200 2.8 is vi. Mainly for the IS part. However I feel I got better quality pics with the non IS version. I am a bit disappointed with my new purchase. Has anyone had this dilemma???

Which version of the 2.8? The IS mk2 version is AMAZING, but that doesn't mean there can't be an issue with the lens itself.

The 2.8 Mk1 IS is a decent lens, but the 70-200 F4 IS is optically better. The Mk2 2.8 IS is the best of the set.

Rubbing it twice before hitting the shutter button helps. It aligns the defractorial angle better. :P

Not sure who told you to make this purchase? There are many threads and hundreds of posts here that compare all of the 70-200mm zooms. Almost everyone has come to the same conclusion that the 70-200mm 2.8 IS II and the 70-200mm f4 IS are far superior to the others. So, it appears the folks here can be trusted. Did you read the reviews at Photozone or the digital picture?

Calm down, i was just joking. It was just a bad decision on my part thats all. I have read the reviews and stuff but wanted to try for myself.

Give it time, it seems like I'm always initially disappointed with a new lens. I guess there's something of a learning curve.

There are thousands of v1 photos inside and on the covers of magazines all over the world. Your body and lens might need a tune up. (mf adjustment maybe?)

Is this one of those things where it's just a tiny bit worse when you zoom into 100% or is it really noticeable? I know people debate the quality of all these lenses, but all of them are very, very good in real world scenarios. You may try turning off IS in situations where it isn't going to help and waiting a second for the IS to fully initialize while using it.

This site seems to indicate that the IS lens is a tiny bit sharper: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=2&APIComp=0 (external link)
