Got to be honest. The V1 was better. Love Zack as a guy and happy I bought it but watched it all and picked up very little over his V1

Do you think people who never saw V1 will get just as much out of it?

Already had a reply and am downloading now :D.

The irony here is that basic one light lighting, especially if trying to focus on speedlites as the source, is a straight forward lighting scheme. Making it fill nearly 8 hours of video takes some creative talent. Which Zack has in spades.

That said, I started doing commercial photography in the late '60s. I've gone though a lot of technology evolutions, lighting as well as cameras. What Zack is describing and illustrating is the same techniques used 40 years ago with hot lights. They are similar to suggestions Dean Collins made in his videos.

Bottomline. Its GOOD, SOUND advise. learn from it. :-)

Zack is probably the first one to agree that this isn't Pixy dust. Its good, sound, fundamental lighting technique that will work. PERIOD!

Yeah, without a doubt.

Also disagree that V1 was "better". This is clearer and more straight forward. Zack has learned a lot about teaching since V1 and it shows.

I like v2 better than the original. More in depth, more examples, etc. Granted he pulls out his Phase One medium format camera out during one of his shoots and talks about his torrid affair with his ranger quadra  , but for the most part, he's using his older camera gear (no $$$ "L" lenses), and a single speedlight.

In contrast, I've watched a few Scott Kelby videos and prefer Zack's approach hands down. Sure, Scott isn't necessarily teaching you one light techniques, but with him, everything he uses is pricey. Plus he has assistants running around doing everything for him during his videos, whereas Zack is running around himself. I guess Zack is trying to show you how to start out when you have very little, and Scott is showing you how to live it up once you've got it made?

True. Scott tends to look awkward trying to be funny.

My recollection is that Zack said early on that he was going to be doing all the moving and adjusting to emulate how he imagined most people watching the video would be working.
That's also why he used a single speedlite for most of it, because that tends to be how people start with off camera lighting.

Its a well thoughtout video with good production values.

Now I REALLY regret missing that presale price. I have a hard time paying for something, especially digital goods, when I know there was a much better price - perhaps it's inevitable that the price drops again...

One Light v1.0 was great.

As I was watching I just couldn't help but feel a newbie would struggle to get what he was talking about - But maybe I'm wrong.

You are not wrong. The content and accuracy were good but from an education standpoint, Zack's explanations were bad. Really bad. Rather than figuring out a coherent way to present certain material he prefaces teaching with a disclaimer of how boring the material is going to be. Zack's original ONELIGHT was much better in my opinion.
