Do I need a 2.8 zoom, and if so, which one?

I don't NEED one but am fighting the urge to buy one, especially with the Canon rebates in effect.

I think, that the Canon 24-70 2.8 Mk1 is still a very-very nice lens, and now that everyone is buying the Mk II, they are sold a lot.

I got one myself, no regrets, very nice lens, very sharp (even compared to the 70-200 IS II)

Ive been tossing around the idea of selling my 24-105 for a 28-70 and maybe a 35 f2. I enjoy night landscapes but my money usually comes from dimly lit events. Something the 24-105 struggles with is low light especially on the 5Dmkii. Good idea or bad?

i really don't want to compromise on sharpness. something I'm happy with in my 24-105 but I'm not happy with the vignetting or distortion.

5D Mark ii, Canon 24-105, Sigma 17-35, Canon 50 f/1.8, YN460 II Flash(s).

I got the Sigma 17-55 a few months ago, and I've barely used anything else since. The colors are rich, the focus is plenty fast, and the range is super useful on my 70D.

I believe it is a 17-50, correct? and it doesn't work well on a FF, it will vignette something very badly.

OP has a 6D, so that lens wouldn't fit.

It will fit, you just wouldn't really want to use it. :) The only lenses where the rear element projects into the mirror box are those made by Canon as EFS, and they are the only ones with an EFS mount as well. All other 3rd party lenses use EF mounts and rear elements stop at the mount plane.

One thing to consider is that the Tamron 28-75 focuses loudly, and a little slow compared to some other lenses. Although I dont have much problems on my 5d since I dont shoot in low light.

Canon rebates are in effect until the end of the month.
Unless I plan a trip that I will want it for, maybe I'll come to my senses before that and pass on getting one. My 24-105 is a workhorse.
I haven't bought a new lens in over a year and a half, but I don't like owning glass that I won't use much.
I think I have GAS!:)
