Canon 60D to 6D for portraiture? Advice on the switch?

So my brother and I literally just bought 60D kits with the 18-135 lenses (I initally wanted the 6D but he talked me into the 60D to get started). I am getting back into photography so here's what I found out.

I never have used the kit lens (not because it's bad but because I don't shoot any wide-angle or zoomed shots). I like primes because it will work well for the portaiture I want to do.

Here are my lenses:
40mm pancake
50mm 1.4
85mm 1.8

Here's the part that sucks. My buddy bought the 6D and I think I want to go full frame. I am just a bit outside the Best Buy return policy so I cannot take back the 60D.

So do you guys think it's sketchy to sell the camera on Amazon? I can wait to list it here once I've been a member longer but I'm all about instant gratification (I want it now!) I was thinking of listing it on amazon but I was reading that they had a return policy. So essentially someone can buy it, decide they don't like photography, or worse, just use it and decide to return it then I have to deal with re-selling? Anyone have any experience selling on Amazon? Ebay isn't too fun either with all of their deadbeat buyers.

Also do you guys think it would be better to sell as the full kit or lens together? Is $700 unreasonable to expect, they are $900 new and it's essentially new, I'd imagine somewhere around 300 shutter actuations so I don't want to completely lose my $.

I like the 60D and it takes great photos but I just like the idea of ff. I guess I should have got the 6D like I wanted from the beginning because I don't really need video.

I want to thank you guys in advance for your advice and input as it is much appreciated. This forum has been amazing and is a wealth of information. I'm excited to contribute and continue to learn.

One problem I see is the 60D with your same lens is $767 as a refurb from Canon (http://shop.usa.canon.com …m-is-lens-kit-refurbished (external link)). Now if the normal Canon Loyalty Program discount of 20% applies, the bottom line is about $615. In addition it comes with a 14 day exchange and one year warranty.

If I was you I would stick with the 60D for a while. It's a good camera to learn with and can do a fantistic job doing portraits. Skill and technique, coupled with good lighting equipment are the critical aspect of doing portrait work. 60D or 6D are both good, but you possibly are going to take a big hit in parting with the 60D.

whoever talked you into buying the 60D over the 6D is a horrible person.

I agree with John. Keep your 60d and get some use out of it. If you sell it now, you're going to take a hit.

The 60d is a very capable camera and can do nicely for portraits with the lenses you have.

Haha, well in his defense, it was the salesguy too since I was getting back into it they said that it wouldn't be as large of an investment if I didn't like it. To be honest, I love the 60D its awesome. But I just want the ff because of the lack of crop factor and shallower dof.

Keep your 60D, you are going to take a massive hit selling it used despite the low mileage. Yes, you want full frame eventually but use this a while before you make the plunge.

Meh..you can have plenty nice dof with your 60d. You've got a case of the grass is always greener... Just enjoy your camera until you truly outgrow it. Or just take the hit. Your choice.

Shot with just a nifty fifty.

Haha I knew that was coming. This was the most knowlegable salesguy I've dealt with at Best Buy, he was just saying the 6D was a much larger investment (which is true).

Haha. You guys can blame me, his brother. At the time it offered a low barrier to entry (price wise) while still delivering powerful IQ. I used my 60D three brief times and will be selling it for a 6D. Here is the third and final time I used my 60D:

Despite the financial hit you will take selling the 60D, I think the question is, can you afford the loss? If so, why not get the camera you want and enjoy it? If it's not finacially feasible, then use the 60D until you can afford the 6D.
