Hello
I'm gonna sell my 70D soon and wonder what you should have done in my position.
I got two ideas that I want to share and see what you think are best for me =)

Idea 1:
A new 6D with 40/2.8 + batterygrip for 2350 USD

Idea 2:
A used 5D Mk2 (1250 USD) and 1D Mk2 (mint condition, 10k shuttercounts) or 40D with batterygrip (mint condition) (both 600 USD/each) all these used cameras has 6 month warranty. So together it will be under 2000 USD.

I want 1 full frame and one Aps-C/H camera. I photograph mostly wildlife but I'm gonna photograph more nightlife and landscape in the future. I don't need high fps in my camera, I want good AF and good ISO handling. The animals are mostly static.

Should I buy a new modern FF camera and save for a APS-C instead of buying two used cameras directly?

Heya,

Get a refurb 6D. Here's your nightlife/landscape/everything body. Lenses, look into the 35mm F2 IS, 35 F1.4, etc.

Keep the 70D. That's your wildlife camera. If you don't need it, sell it, get a 60D. I'd go straight to the 100-400mmL, or Sigma 50-500, or Tamron 150-600.

Very best,

If you are intent on selling the 70d I would go with option 2 but with a 7d instead of 1d mk ii

Very best,

I already own good lenses, for a start.
Sigma 50/1.4, Tamron 90 + Sigma 120-300/2.8 OS and Canon EF-S 18-135 IS

Again,

6D refurb. This is your night cam and every day cam.

60D if you feel the 70D is something you don't want to keep. Pocket the $300 difference. Put towards the 6D. This 60D, or any crop you choose here, is your wildlife cam.

Very best,

Yeah that's my future set up :) but for now, in my situation, it's best to buy a new 6D :)

I see you are located in Sweden which would be the reason for those high prices. I see 1D III's going for the equivalent of $600US all day long on ebay here (7D's about $50-$100 more). Anyway, I would not recommend option 1 at that price. The second option is a much better spend of money imo. The 5D II is fantastic and the 1D II as well. The only real downside of the 1D II imo (for the price) is the LCD. It is very small, low res and has horrible viewing angles. Take this into consideration.

If I were in your position, however, I would keep the 70D. It is a fantastic camera. It would be better to just save for a used 5D II and keep the 70D.

I don't know anything about the 40 2.8, except that neither of those specs seems very interesting. It does have 'inexpensive' going for it. I bought my 6D and 35 IS specifically for the nightlife, dinner out, club stuff. The 35 IS is fantastically sharp wide open, the IS helps a lot, too. Getting decent results at ISO 25,600 from the 6D helps.

You already own the best APSc camera Canon makes. Why sell the 70D?

I can only tell you my experience. I have shot a 5DII for 4 years. Last year I added a 6D. I like the 5DII better by a margin. The focus isn't as snappy, and the high ISO, like 6400 isn't as clean, but the images in the lower ISO range are better in color tone and range than the 6D. That is only shooting raw.

I need one more body and right now I'm deciding between another 5DII or even a 5D, but even at the same price I wouldn't buy another 6D.

It could be that I'm just so skilled at making the 5DII images that I can't adjust (old dog . . . ) but that's my take.

Tom

I have decided now. The store I usually order camera equipment from had such a good deal so I could not resist.
Along with 6D I get EF 40/2.8 STM, BG E13 (Battery Grip) + PS lightroom and Photoshop for the same price as body only at my local dealer.
