How to preset and save my own settings in creative mode in 60D?

Hello expert!

I am a newbie to DSLR photography here. I recently bought a D60 camera to take dental and portrait photos for my work.

I found some good shutter speed, ISO, aperture settings to take dental and portrait photos in my workplace. But after reading the manual, I still couldn't figure out how to preset and save my own setting in creative mode. Is it possible to do so in creative mode in D60 body? If so, how can I do it?

First off welcome to POTN.

Secondly, I assume that you mean 60D rather than D60. Also I think that you mean "Custom Mode" rather than "Creative Mode". The instructions in the manual are fairly clear, so perhaps you just didn't know where to look for them.

Here they are from page 262 and following:

Creative mode is Canon's moniker for exposure modes like Tv, Av and such. The opposite is preprogrammed modes, where you select little icons like the running man (sports), the flower (close up) etc.

It's correct that only the creative modes allow access to storing a setup in a custom mode memory slot.

Just curious, what kind of work do you do that requires both dental photos AND portraits?

I immediately thought about someone who fixes/corrects teeth. You probably want both an "inside" and "outside" view of your work then.

I am a dentist, so I take intra-oral and portrait shots of my patients before and after purpose for marketing, presentation, documentation purpose.

Only one can be saved in the 60D.

The 60D only lets you save one batch of settings - or two, if you use C mode for your first setting and M mode for your second (then never change it).

For more sets of settings, write 'em on a post-it, and dial in the settings to M mode each time.

However, this isn't a long-term limitation:
As you gain experience, you'll be able to remember the settings.
As you gain even more experience, you'll know what settings you're going to need, before you even start setting up the shot.
