Hey,

I'm probably in the wrong location, but is it a good idea for me to rent out a 6D for a week while I'm on vacation in St Louis over taking my t3i? I am taking my own lenses (28-70 F2.8 L, 50mm F1.8 and then I have two lenses that are crop body only and then the sigma 10-20mm)

Should I grab a 6D or should I just deal with crop body because I know how to use it better and know what I'm doing. I've never shot a 6D or a full frame so I would be learning it as I go obviously.

Bodies: Canon 5D3 - Canon 1D4
Lenses: Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM SPORTS - Canon 100mm F2.8 L - Canon 70-200mm F2.8 L - - Canon 85mm F1.2 L V2 - Canon 40mm F2.8 Pancake
Extras: 2 Neewer TT520 Speedlites - Manfrotto 3021BPRO and ballhead

I believe the 10-20 Sigma is also a EFS lens, but it will mount. You just won't be able to use it on the wider end.

Why don't you rent the 6d AND take the T3i?

I don't think theres some big full frame learning curve. Just that your 28-70 is now a 28-70 instead of 1.6 times that.

go for it....6d is supposed to be amazing

does the t3i take sd cards? I know the 6d does

Just going on a vacation... There really is no need to rent a 6D. Just take your T3i

Yes t3i is SD cards. Only reason I would take along the 6D would be so that I could get better image quality and really remember the vacation a bit better...I would rather not be doing camera swapping or too much lens swapping either. Just debating if the 6D would be THAT much of an improvement...

I wouldn't want to risk hitting the mirror if the EFS lens is going to risk it.

I think I would use it most indoors at museums and such just so I could jack up the ISO

By having a 6D you will not all of a sudden take photos that are better than the T3i. The 6D will offer better high ISO photos, and a different FOV.

The t3i and the 10-20mm lens will be perfect for your vacation.

lol I don't anticipate better images just from changing cameras :P. But similar to changing from my kit lens to a piece of L glass, I would expect a bit of an upgrade in quality and sharpness and such :).

I suppose the t3i with the sigma 30mm F1.4, canon 28-70mm F2.8 L and then the sigma 10-20mm for buildings :). If you see no purpose, then I feel no need to spend the extra $80 for a week with the 6D

Tell me if I'm wrong :P

Only going to go for it (as that's about a third of the cost of the whole trip...cheap trip) if it will help with sharpness, low light capabilities and overall performance. But of course it will be the only camera with me, so if anything goes wrong...I'm doubly screwed because I'm paying for it and because then I am out a camera...almost would rather have my trusty rusty t3i cuz I am sure it'll keep chuggin' along :P

Go for it and take the T3i with you. You will be tempted to compare side by side photos and you will regret if you don't.

Who knows... you might like it... :D

I'm scared to like it! I can't afford a 6D (like I want) so I don't want to tempt myself because I have the funds but definitely need to save for college payments soon ;P. I am bringing a friend so it's not like I'll be giong just for photography unfortunately :(

I'd suggest using the $80 for a few nice meals and/or attractions while on vacation - especially if you're taking the vacation with family or friends. A vacation scenario generally isn't the best time/place to be learning about a new camera and focusing (pun intended) on making it work.

Good point SkipD. Yeh it's going to be my first vacation w/o my family for spring break coming up soon...Really excited for some building shots and some really neat museum photos and all that jazz...A 6D would spice up the trip a bit, but obviously is not a necessity like meals ;P
