Gonzo, do you live in the area? I might consider shooting from up the street then if I can...I guess I'll have some photoshop work ahead of me :P.

Bodies: Canon 5D3 - Canon 1D4
Lenses: Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM SPORTS - Canon 100mm F2.8 L - Canon 70-200mm F2.8 L - - Canon 85mm F1.2 L V2 - Canon 40mm F2.8 Pancake
Extras: 2 Neewer TT520 Speedlites - Manfrotto 3021BPRO and ballhead

There won't really be a learning curve from your T3i to the 6d. I've rented the 6d twice and shot it side by side with my 60d and T3i without skipping a beat.

You'll be pleasantly surprised by the higher ISOs you can use but if you use flash you may find yourself less impressed with the x-sync, especially if you're trying to freeze action. I would rent one for a week if I wanted to if it were me.

I shoot all natural light photography and won't be shooting anything (not anticipating anythign at least) moving super fast.

I could always rent it out in the summer if I was REALLY interested in trying before buying, but I'm not trying before buying. I'm just interested in getting some good shots and wasn't sure if this would be worth the extra bit of money or if it was standard that people rented out bodies for vacations or not. I figured people rent out lenses, but I feel comfortable with my lens setup

I live about 100 miles away in Illinois. You can shoot up the street and use the court house to screen the grounds provided there is no heavy equipment or scaffolding in the way.

I own a 6D and I am very happy with it. That being said, my personal opinion is lenses make a bigger difference than bodies, generally speaking. My 6D came with the 24-105 f4 L. I was replacing a very old Rebel (XS?), and the Rebel with the L lens did pretty damn good. I'd take a T3i with a Zeiss lens over a 6D with a crappy lens. For sure, the 28-70 F2.8 L is awesome. Is that the range you like to shoot in? Then by all means give a Full Frame a shot. Would you like something wider or tighter? Then spend the $$ on that lens for the week. I think I may rent the 15mm Zeiss for my Canyonlands trip in a couple months..

Canon 6D gripped and bracketed, 24 TS-E L, 24-105L IS, 70-200L f4 IS, Sigma 50 Art, Sirui BSRM3204X + Induro BHL3, F-Stop Tilopa BC

I bought my 6D for two specific reasons.
I wanted less noise a higher ISO settings, while shooting street photography hand held, with the same shutter speed and iso.
I wanted my 24L f1.4 (38mm FOV on crop) to have a viewer view with the shallow DOF for environmental portraits.
I am very happy with the camera, coming from a T4i
The only learn curve is some of be back button controls are different.
To zoom on the lcd, and the change single focus points, but they can be learned within a day or two.

While it is a great camera. More people seek to get a full frame camera because they have a specific limitation in their current gear.

The standard advice is not to take unfamiliar gear with you on holiday. There isn't enough time to become familiar with it. There could even be some fault you are unaware of.

So, no don't rent. And I would give the same advice if you owned a full frame camera and wanted to rent a crop camera.

In your case, it would be even more unwise because you wouldn't be able to use two of your lenses, including your 10-20mm wide angle zoom, which is a bread and butter travel lens.

You can also rent locally once you are there. Schiller's Camera is a full service camera store and the main store of Creve Couer Camera is as well.

Gonzogolf, that's great information to have! I might take that option and see if I can get the 6D for just a day or two and get some testing in then :).

Melcat, that's a good point that and all of that information is useful :). I wouldn't necessarily that the 10-20mm is the bread and butter travel lens ;P. I honestly would rather carry my 28-70 (which I will be anyways) but for the street photos of buildings I feel that the 10-20 will be amazing! :)

I wouldn't. After you do you'll end up wanting one :p

If you don't use it you won't know any different. In good lighting the differences aren't that major, aside from the FOV differences and DOF difference (which won't matter much for architecture).

Very true :) I don't want to get sucked into wanting to buy one...Also I plan on doing my best with natural light so that'd be where it would shine more but I'll make do with the t3i based on previous suggestions :)

THanks everyone!

Just make sure you bring a tripod, then either camera will do you just fine ;)

For what it's worth, I bought my 6D using Best Buy's 18 month 0% interest financing and in one year I paid it off with proceeds from images taken with it... just saying, you have options ;)

Not on a full frame camera, it won't, as in "It won't mount!" Just in case you didn't know, since you do say above you'd only be taking one camera.

Melcat: I know :) crashing the mirror right into the rear element is a scary thing to imagine :P. I realize only EF lenses will fit a full frame camera :).

EverdayGetaway: I didn't even think about financing it and paying it off over a year :o. Obviously best buy is going to cost more (and I LOATH best buy, but financing would be nice) but that's a good idea! I will be making money off of the camera as I go so that'd be a viable option :). ONLY problem is the lenses :(. I don't want to get rid of my t3i so I would probably keep my 30mm F1.4 sigma and then the only lenses I would have would be the 50mm F1.8 Mark I and then the 28-70mm F2.8 L for the 6D...not a bad set up but, I wouldn't have any F1.4 lenses...I'm going to have to consider that upgrade come the end of the summer this year :) I could use the high ISO availability for winter images (As most things end up being indoors)

Best Buy will 100% price match Amazon ;) I got my 6D with the 24-105L last year in February I think for $2400, which was the lowest I had seen it at the time. They also carry and can order more lenses than you'd think ;)
