I've rented from borrowlens.com; a reputable company. Be aware of the add-on costs - shipping and insurance. They do have local pickup; of course this would only work if you're local to them. That being said, the $100 cost or so in my mind is just part of the cost of the vacation. Some would spend it on a couple of meals; others on some good gear. Recently, I wanted a wide angle lens for a vacation, so I rented a Tokina 16-28, just get a sense if I wanted it or not. Turns out it was a great lens, but it just wasn't for me since it was a bit to chunky, heavy, bulbous for me. Ended up getting the Canon 17-40.

Just trying to help you out, I feel your pain in terms of budget ;)

I just figure, why lust after something and eventually get it and think "man, if only I had this sooner!" when you could just get it now and pay it off in 18 months at no additional cost to you? It's like layaway only you get to keep and use the product while you pay for it... winning.

I own a 6D and love it to bits.

Take only your T3i and enjoy your trip. The photos you get will depend on where you are and what and when you choose to shoot. Not the camera you are using.

It might be slightly different if you said you were going to spend most of the time inside dark ancient ruins where flash is not permitted. In such a specific case, the low light cleanliness of the 6D might offers a consistent advantage. Outside that, just go and enjoy and don't be distracted by the unfamiliar camera.

Good idea guys :) Thanks for all of the help! I am slightly worried about indoor photography as well as night time photography as my images are much softer when I add in the noise reduction...but it functions and people like the images anyways. They aren't being hung up or paid for so it's not a huge deal if they aren't the top quality I suppose haha. I'm going to look into the layaway for one eventually, but at the moment I actually have to keep the t3i so that I can shoot weddings in the same format as my boss (videography)

aaaaaaand now I want both lol. Right now I need to see my 28-70mm F2.8 L, it's coming back from repair this week and they said they couldn't fix it...so I might be in the neighborhood for a 24-70mm F2.8 L if they broke my 28-70 :/. Patience :)

Yes t3i is SD cards. Only reason I would take along the 6D would be so that I could get better image quality and really remember the vacation a bit better.

Save your money. You won't notice any difference for vacation snaps.

Rent it. Nothing better than actual experience with a camera you like. Enjoy your vacation and be sure to visit the St. Louis museum, the crazy one.

I LOVE the Botanical Garden, it was ridiculously awesome the last two times I went, hopefully it's not too bad even though it's cold out :/. Only two weeks out from vacation now. Plans are being made tonight! Thanks! Any other suggestions for cool placed to stop? Obviously the arch, the fox theater (if they are touring right now), city museum, Botanical Garden, maybe the stadium? Anywhere else :P

right, the city museum! botanical gardens too, it's real nice. I think an ultrawide is preferable in the city museum (14mm samyang), I wasnt ready for it last time around (had no idea what it was). The 6D's low light performance will be a life saver as those tunnels are super low light.

The Zoo, the Art Museum, basically all the attractions at Forrest Park. Although partially as tourist stops as much as photo opportunities. Unless it greens up in a hurry, its not the prettiest time of the year to visit.
