Batman in the Canyon

To check off one of my bucket list items, I decided to visit the Antelope Canyon. Imagine my surprise when I saw Batman! CC are welcome and appreciated. This is a 5 shots HDR.

There's nothing in the rock formation that looks like batman to me either.

I guess it's kind of like an inkblot. You see what you want to see. It's a very pretty and dramatic place with a LOT of tourists. It was difficult to frame and take time with your shots. The guide was showing people all kind of formation representing different animals/things, so I thought to try to come up with one myself.

A brilliant image that I wouldn't mind hanging in my lounge.

I saw Batman right off the bat (no pun intended). That is a super image, print, frame, and hang!!!

Batman is there.

Firstly, gorgeous image. The contours and the lighting and the use of color work very well here. This image also seems nicely balanced to me, and it's very intriguing how the lines enter and emerge from the shadows.

Secondly, I'm of the mindset that the title is hurting the image. And I have no business throwing stones here because I absolutely SUCK at titles. But when you titled this "Batman in the Canyon", the first thing I did was try to find Batman. Shoot, look at the discussion that's going on so far, there's already a back and forth exchange that's totally about whether or not Batman is there. And I personally think that's a tad bit of a shame, because I think that aspect is drawing away from discussion of why this image is so good. Don't get me wrong, I think the fact that Batman is there is sort of cool. But I also have to say that this image really isn't about Batman, and finding Batman should be a bonus rather than one of viewer's primary goals. I'm sort of the opinion that the whole Batman angle, albeit cool, is really a lot too much like those Magic Eye or Where's Waldo illustrations. And I think that having people focus on that right from the start is doing a disservice to the actual image. Did finding Batman actually make the image better? I don't think so. Is the image still just as awesome even if one has no idea that there's a Batman in it? I think so.

So I think that Batman is sort of irrelevant to why this image works. It's unnecessary, so I think that it should get cut. I'm not saying to avoid pointing out the Batman in discussions, I'm just saying that I don't think you should be making Batman such a big element right from the start by titling it Batman. That's making it seem like an image about Batman, when (as far as I can tell), the reasons why this image works have NOTHING to do with Batman.

Batman is pretty epic.

We have all a bunch of other boring rock formations. But this one has stood out for me specifically.
