I caught this guy crossing the road. He is about 2 feet long from head to end of tail. Get you finger close to his mouth, and you will not have a finger.

Nice closeups.. Great shots.

We have 'em here where I live too, but I've never managed a decent shot of one.... I've seen them in the distance when I haven't had my camera handy. And yes.. fingers must not get too close to the mouth :)

Most of the time they stay buried in mud and places that you can not photograph them. I was lucky enough to catch this fellow crossing a road.

Very nice images. Love the close-up, though a little more space for him to "move into" would make them even better.

In the last 30 years I have only seen 2 of these, and both were on roads. Very hard to get pictures once they are in ponds (where they seem to love to live).

Usually the road crossers are females looking for egg laying spots. Not sure if that's the case here, but cool shots regardless!
