I posted almost a year ago when I got my first DSLR. Here is where where I started. Been doing a bunch of lurking and learning since there. You guys are awesome!

And here is something I did a few weeks ago. I keep my camera with me just about 24/7 and am able to snap some cool shots. I am doing a lot of fire scene photography, where you work under less than ideal circumstances and you don't have a shot at a second chance. Anyone else into fire scene photography?

I like it! A bit more water would have been nice though. Is this the full frame or a crop? A bit more room around it would be better.

It looks they got there a little late - why bother with water?
But nice shot catching the stream just as he opened the valve.

Since you've been lurking a while, you know that we're a tough crowd!

We want to you recreate the fire scene...

Next time, we want you to make some changes:
1. Arrive at the scene before the fire starts to let us understand more of the context,
2. Direct the amount of water the fire-fighters are using at any given time to get nice arcs of water spraying the fire
3. Position yourself so that you can get some rainbows from the water spray
4. Move the fire-fighters with hoses to better locations to create leading lines.

I think that would just about cover it all!

Thanks for sharing, I like this shot and you've taught us that having the camera with us and available is very important to capturing the images. I hope you'll continue to post this unique subject.

1D-III with stuff to stick on it:
70-200L, 28-70L, 24-105L, 300L, 50, 10-17 fish, 2.0x TC
Image editing OK, encouraged, and expected. Thank you for helping me learn!

Wow, I have got to say I am humbled by the response here. I know I broke a big rule and cut the firefighter in half but everything else in this shot was perfect. The next frame had half the fire and the smoke shifted making everything just go to crap.

Titus, this was the full frame minus a wee bit with leveling if I remember right.

Qbx, this particular fire was an arson and they were trying to preserve any evidence there was left to help with a conviction.

Woodworker, thanks for the kind words.

Cpam, I am working on a top secret project with canon where I will actually be able to suppress fire with my camera. Keep it on the down low though...

I will have to share a little more from my adventures with you guys. Thanks again, it is one thing to hear some guys I work with say it looks good, another to hear it from you guys.
