I know i know. However my recent acquisition of this fine lens and today's zoo trip told me one thing.

Outer points refused to focus even on anything animal related. Eyes... nope... legs... nope.

Nothing.

Center point obviously fine. Also had a very poor SERVO performance w/ center point and my cousins kid running toward the camera starting about about a 150 feet away.

Just figured I'd share. Just waiting for a good price on a 5D3 at this point.

Just curious, what composition of a child running would require anything but centre at 150 feet ? ? ? I think your being mischievous with this thread ;)

EDIT

Are you sure your camera was in Servo mode? My 300 f/2.8 IS has been superb with my 5D3, 5D2, 1D4, and 7D. It's possible that there wasn't enough of the proper orientation contrast for the outer AF points to lock on to. Keep in mind those outer AF points aren't cross-type sensitive.

Indeed it was. I'm not too worried about it just wanted to report my findings.

Simple task for any camera IMHO.

You are doing it all wrong.

According to Bakewell you should use "AI Servo Automatic" to capture motion :p
