Finally Upgraded

After so many years on XP and my ancient Athalon 64x2, I decided to take the plunge but on a budget so I could upgrade software as well.

Today I bought a Dell on sale at Office Depot (instead of building my own again) for 479.00
I saw it in the paper and thought it may be a misprint as it has a I-5 4th gen 4400 and 8 gig ram with card reader etc. The one caveat was that it came with windows 8.1.

Upon receiving the system I went home and ran the setup which was quick and painless, then came the real fun.

I upgraded to PS CS6 and Lightroom 5 finally!

I then installed a small program to bring back my traditional start button.
So far the system is rock solid and very quiet and I am so overwhelmed with the speed.

Over all it's been a good day!

I hope to do the same.....some day. I'm also using an ancient, 10-year-old XP. I'm still using CS2 and not planning on buying/updating to CS6 when the time comes to retire the old machine.

That thing should run your software without any issues.

The only negative thing so far is that usually in the morning I would turn on my pc and go get coffee while it loaded.... 6 seconds to desktop now so I gotta get my coffee first lol.

Looks like you gotthis. A lot of computer for the money. Well done. Love that it has 4 USB 3 ports.

Whao.... I use one of those in a pfsense router for my network and have been itching to upgrade it.... Nice upgrade you will enjoy the speed increase.

Not to bad after I downloaded a program that brings back the start button and I don't boot to the tiles, I go straight to the desktop.
It's really not that bad of a system that I can see so far. Creating a bootable restore to disk was extremely easy and the bloatware was minimal from Dell besides MacAfee which I uninstalled immediately.

If it's a Dell, you should be able to get a free (or minimal fee to cover shipping) Windows 8 OS setup CD/DVD. It's not a recovery CD/DVD, it's OS only without any bloatware.

That's not a genuine M$ Windows install CD though, is it? One where you can change hardware, and not have issues.

No, of course not. The setup media is good for Dell computers only.
