Shockproof/waterproof P&S

I intend to do some reading and some research on this site and elsewhere so please don't beat me up for not using the search function but I have a couple of questions regarding a new P&S for myself. First of all, I do 90%+ of my photography with my 60D and that will continue. I'd like to get a point and shoot to replace one that I broke but I'd like it to be very inexpensive since I'll rarely use it, maybe something in the $200 range. I'd also like it to be shockproof/waterproof because I do snorkel and occasionally take underwater photos of fish that I catch and release. I'd probably also occasionally use it for landscape or other types of photography when I was far away from the vehicle and simply didn't have my DSLR.

Does Canon have anything like that in the CLP? If so or if not, what model(s) should I be looking for or should I consider another manufacturer (I have a small Olympus model (not sure which one) that my employer provides and it's quite nice, though I don't want to use it for personal use.

Thanks in advance for any input or ideas.

Canon's newest water resistant/tough camera is the D30 which has a 5x f3.9-4.8 28-140mm lens. Olympus has the TG-2 with a F2.0-4.9, 25-100mm lens (4X) which in theory should take better photos in dim lighting. I have the Olympus TG-620 with a 5x f3.9-5.9 lens and it struggles to take good shots at night while I'm on a dark beach. It takes relatively good photos in decent lighting. It has been 15'+ under water several times without any water intrusion problems.

That being said, I should have a Canon S120 here tomorrow and I'm very tempted to buy the WP-DC51 waterproof housing for it. That would be cheaper than buying a new tough camera and I'm sure my fishing photos in dim lighting would be better than with my Olympus. Good luck in your decision.

Thanks for the advice, I'll research and price out the options that you've suggested.

Also if you are into mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras check out the Nikon 1 AW1. Its just shy of $800 with the waterproof NIKKOR AW 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens.

I have a pentax (W2 or something like that, newer model out now) that I'm quite happy with. Takes good pix, video, is water and shock proof. A bit larger than others, but I like it. Don't recall what it cost.

40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

As far as I know..there is no such thing as a waterPROOF and shockPROOF camera.
WaterRESISTANT, and ShockRESISTANT yes.

Big difference.

I use an Olympus TG-2, and I love it. It's predecessor (an Olympus Stylus Tough 6020) had been dropped down the hole while ice fishing, and dropped in the Bow River while fly fishing. I couldn't kill the thing. It has been passed onto my niece.

I haven't done anything horrible to the TG-2, but I'm pretty sure it can take whatever I dish out.

Well, then we'll have to live with water and shock resistant. :)

Thanks for everyone's input.

Canon USA is offering 20% off their regular price for a refurbished (1 year warranty) S110 with its underwater housing and a leather case (external link) for $280. That's just over half of what you'd pay for the camera and housing at Adorama.

My humble two cents. If you want water/shock then go either the Panasonic TS5 or the Olympus TG-2. If you have the cash, go the Oly, I reckon.

I have the Panasonic and love it to bits. It pretty much goes where I go most days - including to the beach, snorkeling, scuba diving and just kicking around. Be happy to share some photos if you're interested.

I spend a ton of time with these types of cameras and these two are a cut above the others.

You might be interested in this review of the Nikon 1 AW1, since it also provides some image comparisons with the Oly and Penny versions;
