Which crop body to upgrade to

I currently have a T3 (1100d) and while it has served me well I am not overly happy with it. I have a trip to yellowstone next January and am hoping to be able to upgrade bodies by then. 75% of what I shoot is landscapes and if I can find them, the animals that go with the landscapes. What I am not happy with is the ISO performance, since most all animals are easier to find in the early morning late afternoon/evening hours. As soon as I start cranking up the ISO on the T3 the images get unusable real fast.

I also shoot at any airshow I can get to, but that is only 1-3 a year and for personal pleasure.

Otherwise I shoot family and friends in my home studio.

What body would you suggest?

I'm still using the original 5D and I'm happy with it. My main "thing" is landscape/nature. I only do people if it's my family (snapshots).

If it must be a crop 70D, other wise I would say 6D or 5Dmk2/3

+1 to canon 70D - the frame rate per second is 7fps and with the 19point AF points makes a much better wildlife body.

If your budget can accommodate it, the 6D would be perfect for landscapes and high ISO.
If not, then the 70D is your best bet.

I think the 6D would be better overall for you. A refurb 6D.

But if you must have a crop, I would fork over for the 70D at this point. Good ISO handling for a crop. MFA built in. Great autofocus. Overall the better crop they have right now, and priced well.

Just remember that some wide angle lenses (ie Canon 10-22mm) can only be used on a crop body and not on FF body (not sure if there are any others out there - I only know about 10-22mm as I own one)

You know, this might be an unpopular opinion, but some mirrorless cameras have significant advantages for landscaping. Their main drawbacks are slow AF (you don't need that) and either lack of EVF or unsatisfactory refresh rate - either way if shooting landscapes you're likely using live view. They don't need any MFA since there's no dedicated AF sensor, some have really great DR and pretty good high ISO handling, they come in small packages (better if you need to trek a while before getting to your location) and there are truly excellent lenses - primes and zooms alike - out there. Bonus points: some don't have an anti-aliasing filter.

With that in mind, I'd point you in the direction of an X-series camera by Fuji (heck, the X-T1 is even weather sealed). Sony has some pretty good stuff in their NEX series. I guess the main drawback is that they tend to cap out at 16 MP so if you want wall prints you might find that a bit low.

And of course, switching brands would make all your current lenses redundant :/.

Thank you everyone for the input, at this point I think I have my eye on the 70d ... there are some new features that at this point I find usless like touch screen but that might change when I use the camera. Now to start the savings process, the 70d and the new Tamron 150-600 is going to hurt my wallet this summer lol.

For me I only use a Crop body (1.5) from Fujifilm. The Fujifilm X T1 and X Pro1. For traveling it is for me the best kit to take with me. The Fujifilm X series has a create IQ and high ISO performance. Lenses I use most of the time on the Fujifilm system 18-55 f/2.8 4 OIS - 35mm F1.4 and 56mm f/1.2.

The above systems is one of the reasons I do not use my 5D3 that much any more. And sold the 5D2

The X E2 with 18-55 is a very nice option. And the kittens is much beter than the Canon Nikon etc.

60D is the only crop id go for and the 7D is over priced to have the same sensor and quality as the T2i.
I have a T2i and have used a friends 7D nothing changed far as quality in my eyes but price.
Looking for a 60D myself and its the best deal far as Crop goes till everyone learns the 7D isnt the best.

you know, except for the full magnesium body, 10 additional focus points, 3 fps increase, 3 additional focus point modes (expansions, spot, zones). But you're right.. same camera.

Magnesium is irrelevant, and the rest is only important if you actually need those features. For what I do, the 7D would be overpriced and overkill. I looked at it when I was shopping and just didn't need what it offered. The 60D has been everything I expected and wanted in a DSLR.

I agree that the 7D is overkill for a lot of users, but to just make a blanket statement that it's no different than a T2i, and that you get nothing for the increased price is inaccurate.

I'll go along with that. The 7D is definitely a lot more camera than the T2i. (although there's nothing wrong with the T2i either - it's a fine camera)
