Hi all I have been doing a lot of shooting at my kids basketball games getting shots of all the kids. I always shoot jpeg L fine. Now when I upload to my SmugMug account it takes forever (running wireless) to upload due to the very large file sizes. I know I could resize the ones I have already taken but for the future which setting would be best, M or S ? 8 1/2x11 is about as big as I would go for the most part when it comes to printing. I'M mainly wanting my upload speed to be much faster to SmugMug.

Input?

Thanks Judd S.

L.

What program do you use to crop, adjust, etc? You might be able to run a batch resize of the L images down to a more reasonable size for uploading.

I use Lightroom ...I know I can resize at export however I'm not sure I need to even capture that large of a file in the camera if the image will be no larger than 8 1/2 x 11
just not sure if I should go as low as the Small setting in my 7D

If you're providing the pics for free and you'll have no personal use for them, I'd say M would be fine. Understand, though, that you won't want to process/edit the photos either...

resolution varies depending on the output device. In general a 8.5x11 @ 200 ppi is a good starting point. That results in a file that is 1700x2200 px.

8.5x11 @300 ppi = 2550x3300

check out the dimensions the camera gives on M and see what works.

do you ever need to crop an image? if so, go larger.

I understand what you are saying. but I personally have a hard time reducing resolution in camera. Batch conversion is so easy to set up, I prefer to do that. Even if it's just one shot of a hundred that needs a tight crop, i want that resolution to be there.

Thanks for the replies; I'll stick with the L setting.
