The Zeiss 135/2 is an amazing lens. It's a heavy beast but a sharp hunk of glass. It's my next Zeiss lens. Good luck.

I believe the world's record for sharpness, resolving power is held by a Leica M lens. 50 I believe.

About sharpest lens, does this mean highest possible center resolution or best overall MTF figures?
According to some resources, Sigma 18-35 1.8 did brake some MTF records. Does anyone know something about that?

Overall, I think some macro lenses has best corner to corner sharpness.
At least, my 100 2.8L macro is the sharpest lens I have. Just perfectly sharp even on high pixel density crop sensors.

Sorry bacchanal but the Sigma 35 isn't in the same league optically as the Leica M 35 Summilux FLE and agree with gasrocks the new Zeiss 50 is good but not sharpest. I think that the new Leica M 50 APO Summicron has it beat in sharpness.

Personally speaking, I'd consider myself barmy to buy a used lens for a penny cheaper than a new one even if I did need to wait a month! Not even any need to do that though, as a new one is immediately available here for £2984:

That may be, I know nothing of that lens. I suppose a $5k, 35mm ought to be decent. From what I've seen the Sigma Art compares quite well with the Zeiss 35s among others...an impressive feat. I'm looking forward to what the 50 Art can do, but I would be pretty surprised if it can hang with the Otus.

Yeah that .95 has really great bokeh (in my opinion maybe a little better than my 200 2L) and if you need the speed then it's a great choice but the lens that is the real gem as far as sharpness goes is not the 50 .95 noctilux but the newer 50 APO summicron. Again sigma isn't even in the same league as this glass. Both the newer 50 APO summicron and the 35 Lux FLE are a cut above and yep it doesn't come cheap, and will not work with a Canon DSLR, and they are manual focus but man are they sweet on Leica M.

I guess in my mind I was thinking that the Zeiss primes were in the same league as Leica, but apparently that was an incorrect assumption. I would love to own a Leica M one day, but man...I imagine those M lenses would rock on an a7r.
