I wouldn't doubt that, but the key words here are "under 200mm", there are a million lenses 200mm and over that are razor sharp and have no aberrations of any kind, but as you go down to 135, 85, and 50mm, quality starts to fall off.

Shallow light angles and spreading less detail across more glass and sensor will do that.

I must congratulate you for manipulating things so as you've managed to get your advert on this forum but, seriously, I suggest you're going to have to lower your price.

In any event, I wish you good luck :)

I imagine the Sigma 50mm Art will be fantastic optically and a hugely popular lens here on POTN. If the Sigma 35mm Art is any guide, the 50mm will compete very well with the Otus on sharpness and correction, but fall short on bokeh. I love the bokeh on the Otus.

the new Zeiss 50 is good but not sharpest. I think that the new Leica M 50 APO Summicron has it beat in sharpness.

Has this been comparitively measured and documented somewhere? Just curious. :)

That appears to have been written August 2013, prior to the Otus' release. Is there any review comparing and documenting the performance of the two lenses?

I guess in my mind I was thinking that the Zeiss primes were in the same league as Leica, but apparently that was an incorrect assumption. I would love to own a Leica M one day, but man...I imagine those M lenses would rock on an a7r.

Actually they don't. Most of what I've read wides are not so good with Sony. They do rock on my MM though.

Just look at the charts. They are available for both lenses. Google is your friend.

You have to get the Leica cart and then get the Zeiss chart. The Leica as the slight edge.. But Leica M wont work with Canon and ths Zeiss won't work with Leica M. Big lens so I doubt they will make an M mount version. The Leica M lens is a lot smaller. I love Zeiss lenses and shot with Hasselblad Zeiss for decades. I would take this Zeiss 50 over any of the Canon or Sigma 50s.

Ming Thein likes the 55 Zeiss better than any other 50mm lens.

Except it's a Sigma, which probably means you'll end up sending back 2 or 3 copies while checking for focus shift, poor QA, inconsistent focusing and other such niceties.

Yes, and the autofocus on the Zeiss is much better . . .

OK, I'm seeing it now. :) The Leica is an absolute razor in the center and by f/5.6 it's a nice straight line. Wow! It could be true that the Otus is a wee bit sharper in the corners @ f/2, but there aren't any Otus f/2 MTF charts to compare to. I think I got a little derailed in my brain since the charts of the two lenses aren't aperture-aligned. Regardless I can clearly see across the board the superior sharpness of the Leica.

You can adapt either of these awesome lenses to a Sony a7 and a7R.
