A lot of Leica folks like some of Leica older lenses because of the way the render. There are a few lenses out there that because of that have gotten insanely expensive. Either way you will probably make money on any Leica lens that you buy. There is a 35 lux double aspherical that now sells usually for 15K if you can find one. They were made late 1980s and early 1990s and not many were made.

Leica made such great lenses even back in the day they are better and sharper than many of the Canon L lenses and Nikon lenses made today. The Zeiss 55 1.4 whoud really shine on your Sony or 5DIII.

Yes, and the autofocus on the Zeiss is much better . . .

To be honest, the presence of AF functionality is an irrelevant metric here, since when talking about the Otus, I don't think anyone will be using it the way most people use autofocus lenses. That is, you'll probably need to be shooting via liveview on a tripod to make the most of it, otherwise you really may as well use the Sigma.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Nah. When they miss a shot they'll just tell you how good the bokeh looks.

I thought that luxury is exclusive to people who shoot with Leicas.

I don't miss shots because my lens has really good DoF scales and there is no auto focus in the world faster than being prefocused. And when you do have to focus it's a heck of a lot easier with my Leica that it is with Canon.....

Still think the 400mm 2.8 II is the king now.

i saw a D800e/Otus at 1:1, 1.4 that Matt Granger posted on instagram and on my iPhone my eyes were sliced open. I can comment on worlds sharpest lens or anything, but it is impressive.

Is this lens that good???

Carl Zeiss 55mm f1.4 OTUS lens (canon fit) - the sharpest lens EVER rrp £3300 + 1 month wait list! £3,000

the finest lens ever made (certainly the sharpest)
without question (...)

...I would put the Otus among the finest lenses made (albeit crippled, in the context of modern, ultra-fast, cpu-powered, ultra-sonic focus lenses).

Right next to it, head-to-head, in many (or maybe in more ways, except aperture) is Canon's EF 300mm f/2.8 L-II, which is basically and optical masterpiece, and a technological "tour-de-force"... albeit for a totally different application and range, though... U.S. $7,000 for your, sir.
