How is this done with only one light. Light showing on the face but the whole image is lit up also.

Looks like there was a snoot, a beauty dish, small soft box or some type of focused light source on the couple. The photographer allowed enough ambient light to illuminate the rest of the frame. A slow shutter speed and maybe a higher ISO as well.

I think this was done one of three ways.....

1.) The ambient light in the room existed on it's own with recessed spot above.....
2.) The ambient light in the room existed on it's own and he added the spot light himself (via flash or constant).....
3.) He created the whole scene himself by overpowering the ambient using two flashes, one for fill and one as a spot.....

Either way, it's a gorgeous image!

There could have been two light sources.

This goes back to your other thread on ambient control. If this is truly a one light shot be selected the ambient level of exposure he wanted then using a snooted (or gridded) flash he added light where he wanted.

There could have been a second source but I'm leaning to this ^^^

Also keep in mind that the white dress will act like a reflector and spread a little boost to the surroundings. Also Its very likely that some work was done in post to guarantee that the shadow areas were the right level compared to the highlights to complete the effect.

True. That white dress will make a difference. Still a very nice shot.

There could have been two light sources.

Just in case you were referring this comment to me, in all of my scenerios, I inferred that it was two lights (ambient + spot)

I'm just gonna assume that this image took place inside of a Hotel Lobby. In that instance, it's highly possible that 5, 10, 20 or even more "small" light sources within the room make up what we consider or call the ambient light (also considered as "one" light source). The second light source is obviously the spot…..

FYI - This image was shot by a member of this forum. I saw it a few weeks ago (I think) in the people or wedding forum. Might be best to search threads and ask him.

Oh I see. You were thinking the second source was ambient as well. Same page.
