Most of what I do is life style type shooting, my dogs and the Grand kids. Some portraits as well of the kids. I own the Canon 60D. The lens I do own are as follows.

EF 50mm f 1.8II I love this lens and it's the cheap one, had it now for probally 2 years and still does great. I do use this one the most, pretty much stays on camera.

EF 85mm f/ 1.8 usm..love this lens as well!

EF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 IS usm (Never use this)

I was thinking a 35 2.0 IS, heard this lens is very sharp, but not sure. I definitely seem to stay at 85 or below for lens use. Even considered the 40 pancake.

Or should I go zoom??? No L lenses, I want to keep the cost down a bit from those.

Thanks again for all your help, hopefully with your help I can finally just order one.

Ok, say you keep and have the 50 and 85. What is it that you cannot do with those 2 lenses?

Thank you for helping me.

Actually my problem is with the 50 inside, my rooms are not huge so I have problems with backing up enough certain times.

OP, you should mention what your budget is as the number of options you have will depend on how much you're willing to fork out. Since it seems like you're looking for something that has a fast aperture for indoor/low-light and is not too wide and falls in the "normal" perspective I would at least consider the following lenses:

EF 28mm f/1.8 USM - this has been my favorite in terms of price/performance but also for flexibility.
EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM - Have not used this lens personally, but have heard good things about it.
EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM - had the opportunity to use this lens in the past, its a nice lens but on a 1.6x camera the f/2.8 is sometimes limiting indoors.
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Art - User reports seem to be that the IQ is great, but AF can be a bit hit or miss depending upon the copy.
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC - This is the older version of the above lens, which is definitely a great lens if you find one at a reasonably price used that works without AF adjustment on your camera body.

The IS helps somewhat, but with f/2.8 you'll still need to figure out how to catch the family pets and the youngsters in low light. Also the 35 f/2 IS is a fantastic lens, but with your 50mm I would begin to think that the 15mm of focal length between the 35mm and the 50mm may not be enough of a difference for your situation.

Anyways I hope that helps a little bit!

Going wide is a right move but not that 35. Go wider or a zoom.

Indeed, the new(er) optical formula over the older kit lenses is great for the price!

then you need something wider than the 50mm. try the 18-55IS and a flash or one of the f2.8 zooms or if you like primes the Sigma 30mm 1.4 (original is only around $200 - $250 used)

Also a great lens, but it could potentially be out of the price range for the OP.

Seconded.

If too expensive, then Sigma 30 1.4 Art. Amazing little lens.

I have the 28 1.8, I like using it in indoor situations. I don't think you'll be disappointed by purchasing it.

If you want to go wider, may I suggest the EF-S 10-22? I have a LOT of fun with this one, especially at the wide end and using the perspective distortion to work for you.

However, if you have a bit more money, just go ahead and get the EF-S 17-55 2.8 and be done with it.

I agree with DeaconG, 10-22 or 17-55 and you'll be set.
