Any recommended square ND filters for the 24mm TS-E? Or are the square ones low quality. I have some pricey 77mm Hoya round ones, but they don't fit, so I'm going square.

Singh-Ray make top-of-the-line glass filters, but they come at a top-of-the-line price.
Lee makes excellent filters and are moderately priced.
Hitech makes resin filters that are of decent (and very useable) quality, and they are inexpensive.

Hope this helps,
Bryan

I use lee filters exclusively and am happy with all of them.

Does the Lee system work ok with vignetting with this lens? I like shift panoramas and wanted to check they don't inhibit the shift (or tilt) movements in any way. I'm guessing you definitely need the 82mm adapter ring (77mm would be more convenient.)

Is there anything you need to tweak to stack up to 3 Lee filters on a TSE24? Or OK on the standard setup?

FWIW texshooter, I use a 82>77 step-down ring with a 77mm Hoya 9 stop ND filter and it only vignettes at the very extreme ends of shift (you can actually see the edge of the filter), so probably worth investing in a $5 step down ring anyway, whatever you do.

I use a set of Cokin X Pro filters on my 24 TSE. The quality is every bit as good as Lee - I also have one of their SW150 ND grads and the results are identical - no quality loss or colour cast (to my eyes) I am able to mount two filters and employ full lens movements without any issues.

Although not the same lens, never had vignetting issues on my 17-40 on FF and 10-22mm on Crop with LEE filters

Thank you both, Cokin Z Pro looks even more expensive than Lee (here in Australia) alas.

Didn't mean to hijack the OP... Recommended square ND...

you can try the ebay knockoff. That's what I'm doing to get my feet wet with square filters. Up until now, I've been doing HDR and it's been working ok.

at worst I'm out $30. I didnt research too much prior to buying, just found out that it wont work natively with the 17mm tilt shift, a lens that I've been using, and looking to purchase....

I use a 120mm(105mmthread) (external link) screwed into the Lee 105mm thread adapter (external link) with 2 slots behind it(3 filters-the 105mm adapter is more limiting than a slot would be) with out any issues on my TS-E 24.

Oh, I also use a 82mm wide angle adapater.

What type of filters are referring to? Square ND filters, Very dense ND filters (10 stop), or Circular polarizer of square shape? While we are at it we might as well cover Grad Neutral density as they fit in the same type of 4"(10cm wide) holder and are the prinicple reason for the slotted filters over the circular. Forget the circular filters for ND or GND use, you can't vertically adjust the position of the transition with a circular GND.

I have found the Hitech filters of density stronger than 2 stops to have a magenta color cast which is difficult to correct for in post. This goes for their ND as well as the GND Hitechs, but the color cast is much stronger on the denser filters. I haven't tried the pro stopper yet. Lee are much more neutral in color cast and are very popular in the GND 4x6" filters as the longer length makes them possible to use the dark 3.5" end of the GND as an ND. Also the longer length makes them easier to hand hold, should you want a much gentle transition using a long shutter speed (move the filter). Lee also sell a square version of a circular polarizing filter, which works well in the same 4" holder. Dig up a large, old thread on the accessories forum for that topic. The Big Stopper (10 stop ND) has a blueish cast which can be corrected with careful white balance. A less expensive alternative is Haida is said to be more color neutral (10 or 6 stop) and less expensive.

Cokin resin filters have a strong color cast and are quite unpopular for that reason.

The Canon 24 TSE II take an 82mm thread, and if you use the Lee holder(by far the most popular) get the Wide Angle (WA) lens adapter. The purpose of the WA adapter is to move the front lens element as close as possible to the first filter to minimize possible vignetting with WA lenses. With 2 slots and the WA adapter one does not get mechanical vignetting at full shift nor full tilt. I also use the Lee specialized adapter for the 17 TSE. However, with 2 slots it will vignette at greater than 5mm shift, but not on full tilt.
If you already have a Cokin Z Pro holder, you can simulate the Lee WA lens adapter by reconfiguring the Cokin adapter in the holder:

I use good quality step up rings to mount the Lee or Cokin WA lens adapter with my smaller diameter lenses.
