A bit of background. (I have edited this post).

After looking at printers a few years ago, it seemed that any 17” printer in the $800-$1200 range did not take roll paper (although I since realized that the 3880 will print longer than 22" - doh). Something that would take rolls was $2000+ and huge. So I got a Pro9500 II that effectively cost me $300 (+ over $1000 in ink so far). I’m happy with the print quality and very happy with the lack of clogging. Dealing with 9 in cartridges that last a couple of 13x19’s is a little annoying though. Plus while initially I was reasonably happy with 13” prints, especially for the price of the printer, I am finding it more and more annoyingly smaller than I’d like. In fact with my recent good Adorama Pix experience, I may not use the 9500 much and just get them to print my preferred size of around 16 x 24.

Recently after someone mentioned that a smaller Epsom (the 3880) could print longer than 22", I started looking again. I’m open to non-Canon makes, but have been happy enough with the 9500, that I’ve have to be convinced that an equivalent would not have clogging problems. I live in an extremely dry climate. I guess though I am also considering a 3880 and using it with rolls (I originally thought the firmware actually prevented you from printing more than 22").

So I guess the question is the 510 dye ink vs 3880 pigment. I had a bunch of other questions, but pretty much answered them myself. The 36" max print length of the 3880 is not a problem or a concern for me.
