Could you give up the 24-70 for a good copy of 24-105?

I have the Tamron 24-70 which has been amazing. 0 Focus issues... super accurate and sharp as a tack...

However, my cousin has a like new (UA used about 10 times) 24-105 that he said would sell to me for $550 cash.

What would YOU do?

Give up a fast 2.8 aperture for 4.0 and a little added reach? Unless you need that reach I say not worth it, and if you need that reach I would say get a complementary lens instead, Unless you are looking for a simple all range walk around.

My vote would be no.

Not that I'm hung up on it but I was looking at the savings too. Prolly about 350-400.

Heya,

Depends on what you need.

Which 24-70? The F2.8 VC? If so, then hell no. Bad trade. If the older 24-70 F2.8 and lack of IS, again, probably not. But if it's the 24-70 F4 without IS, only if you favor the 105 length and want the weather sealing portion.

Very best,

This! But if it is a non-vc and worth less than the Canon, then yes.

The asking price is good, if you can justify it's use in your workflow.

I have the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 (version 1), and the Canon 24-205 f/4. Both are excellent. Which I choose depends on what I'm shooting. For a general, lightweight (relatively!), sharp, versatile lens for general use or if I travel, the 24-105 works well. However, for more important shots, such as a family gathering or party, I'll go with the 24-70... although it's heavier, it's sharper and sometimes the extra stop is useful (e.g., dimly lit restaurant, etc.).

Who makes a 24-70 f/4 without IS in a Canon mount?

I could have sworn that Tamron had a 24-70 F4 that matched Canon's 24-70 F4L IS, but lacked VC. Maybe I'm wrong.

Doesn't change the above though.

550 is a hell of a price, but I encountered the 24-105 for 500 before and passed. I have access to it all the time, and even in good light, I'm not very drawn to it. I almost want to get it because it's so cheap, but anytime I shoot F2.8 or faster, I am reminded about how scary it is to shoot F4 all the time :D

Not what he is saying.

24-70/2.8 VC = 24-105 + $550 cash. Good deal or not?

Actually, Chariot, that is what he is saying. There was not trade mentioned. The OP simply has the opportunity to purchase a 24-105mm outright for $550.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I find myself using the 85-105 quite a bit.
I mean if you already have the 24-70, wouldn't it be better to get the 70-200 f4 non is for around $550 used.
