Does anyone have experience with making an Exakta mount fit onto a 5D2 or 5D3? I'm interested in getting a 100mm Meyer Optik Trioplan manual focus. Looked around and I know there are mounts available... some differing reviews and comments about fitting loosely or still touching the mirror box.

Thoughts? Thanks.

There are different adapters for Exakta - and with some the lens can touch the mirror of a EOS 5D camera. My Trioplan is M42, so no problem. My Exakta mount lenses don“t work all easy, because of that automatic iris crank. On one lens I need to disassemble a part of that crank.

I'm thinking then, I should probably try to stick to M42 if I can find one... even if it's a bit more expensive.

Yes, stick with M42. Make you life easier. More resale value as well. Exakta adapters can be complicated, M42 simple.

How about exakta to a 60D? I understand there are less issues with mirror imact on crop cameras?

Yes, those lenses with Exakta mount protrude a bit too much into the camera - but this is much less or as far as I know no problem with cameras like the 60D.
And Trioplan 100 lenses with Exakta mount are much cheaper :-)

I have the BigIs Exa to EOS adapter. No problem on my crop cameras. It hits the mirror on the 5d and leaves un unexposed black stripe in the bottom
