>I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, I know there were Lifetouch threads before but I couldn't find one with my particular question<

My daughter came home from school today and I found a Lifetouch photo package in her backpack. Wtf? I never gave permission for these guys to photograph my kid while at school! I'm severely annoyed with this tactic.
According to them I have two options, buy the prints and keep them or return them. (They guilt parents into paying or returning them by providing a Kindle for the school for a drawing)
I didn't want anyone to take pictures of my kid, anything I can do about it at this point?

(The quality of the paper and print is horrible as well, the pose and overall picture is okay, although not very sharp)

They are serving as the schools agent doing their yearbook portraits, and offering those shots to the parents. Its been standard procedure in schools for years.

So they're for the yearbook and no one from the school bothers to mention it.. I'm still not excited about the practice of sending finished prints home. This is my first kid in school, so I have no clue about this stuff.

Eta: they took pictures in the fall, and we were notified ahead of time.

Well I started attending grade school in 1969 and they did it back then. As for the communication with the school, thats a different matter. The finished prints are a gamble. It costs them $2 to print a set of your kid. 8 of 10 parents cant resist any shot of their kid so they cover their costs when 1 parent out of 10 buys the package, the rest are profit.

Its nothing new here, at the start of the year, my daughter got a large packets of papers for parents to sign, there was one paragraph in a 8 page document that we had to sign that gave permission for the school to take pictures and use pictures of our child, this includes using outside companies for year book photos.

Standard practice, as a dad of a young girl I do not see the harm in school photos, everyone seams to get so bent out of shape about pictures being taken at school.

"These guys" referenced in the first post? The ones who never had permission (but actually did) to take pictures?

Sorry, I suppose my dry sarcasm falls a little flat in text.

Gotcha. Knowing you from previous posts I should have known, but some people are so hyper sensitive about privacy these days its hard to tell the sarcastic and from the earnest and ill informed.

School photos have been taken since at least the 1940's.

Homeschool your child, and keep them locked in a closet for the rest of their life.

I had class pictures taken, too, but my parents were given the option to opt-out ahead of time!
She had pictures taken in the fall, we were notified ahead of time, I even bought some, although I could have taken better ones myself.
This time, no notification. When did I call anyone creeps? I said these guys, meaning Lifetouch. I take my kid to tons of outings, I don't really care if someone takes a picture. But, I send my kid to school and the school can just have her picture taken when they feel like? Annoying.
