Which digital cameras use leaf shutters?

A friend of mine was nice enough to lend me his X100 for a snowboard photoshoot this weekend. I took it home and did a couple test shots with my Elinchrom Ranger at 1/1000. I'm really impressed with how even the light is across the entire frame, which is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm now majorly considering buying another body for this sole reason alone. I know some of you are probably thinking, WHY?! The ranger has a very short flash duration when used with the Freelite A head. Right. It does, however, it's not enough and I also want to kill more ambient. I hate filters - I find focusing becomes more difficult. So with that said, I'm curious what other cameras are out there that can help me achieve the same result. Fast shutter speeds that also sync with my flash.

I was about to pull the trigger on a local used X100S yesterday but someone beat me to it. Now I'm thinking perhaps I should do a little more research and see what my options are. I am not looking to spend more than $1500 at the absolute most. Ideally, I would like to spend closer to $1000-$1200 (willing to buy used). This means I am NOT interested in medium format :P.

The G1x and G1x II have leaf shutters. I am not sure of any others.

loved leaf shutters when I shot old medium and large format. Nothing like not having to worry about shutter speed with flash.

I haven't used flash much with my G1x but I can get right up to the max 1/4000 using radio triggers with external flash, external flash in the hotshoe, and also with the built-in flash.

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, it appears that I was wrong about 1/4000. In some modes even though 1/4000 is selected, it will default to a slower speed and/or the light from the flash will not reach the subject. Even at close range. The usable max seems to be about 1/2000 for external flash, but the built-in flash is usable right up to 1/4000.

The only problem with this type of shutter is the max speed is limited by the aperture with or without flash. It has something to due with the way the shutter is actually part of the aperture I think.

These are the max speeds on the G1x.

f/2.8 gives you max 1/1600
f/4.0 gives you max 1/2000
f/5.6 gives you max 1/2500
f/8.0 gives you max 1/3200
f/11.0 gives you max 1/4000

I think all medium format DSLR has leaf shutter lense, but the shutter speed is caoped at 1/500th sec most of the time.

Some people like to use flash outdoors to overpower the sun. If you want to use a fast shutter speed and large aperture for shallow depth of field, you need to remember that the G1x has a variable aperture 28-112 lens that can make it difficult to get shallow depth of field.

To get back on topic, if you know of any cameras with leaf shutters, please, list them! Thanks in advance

My guess is that only the higher end point and shoots with fixed lenses have them.

Canon G15, G1x, etc

Fuji X100 With the camera switched off, the X100's in-lens shutter is clearly visible. It makes the camera exceptionally quiet in use, and allows flash sync at high speeds - up to 1/2000 sec.

Nikon Coolpix A It has a 7-bladed diaphragm and a lens shutter that work together for essentially silent operation. The in-lens shutter allows the camera to flash sync all the way up to its maximum shutter speed (1/2000th of a second)

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 The lens, which is designated as a Carl Zeiss Sonnar T*, features a leaf shutter for essentially silent operation (though you can engage a sound effect if you wish). This design means the camera can sync with flashes all the way up to its 1/2000th maximum shutter speed, as well as allowing the lens to reach closer to the front of the sensor.

Any digital camera with a removable lens would not have a leaf shutter.

Yes, but the G1X mark 2's lens is f/2-3.9, should give you plenty of DOF control

I dont think he's wanting to go shallow DOF as much as freeze skiers without sacrificing the ambient like you would have to do using ND filters.
