Lens Item code - different endings

Hi all,

It seems a lens type may have different "item codes" (or would it be called "revision no"?).
Anyone knows anything about what the different code ending speficies?

As an example, in different stores, the 24-70 f4 IS gets listed as
6313B002
-B005
-B009
-B010.

The B002 seems to be sold in the U.S., whereas the others are available at different european stores (google).

Similar, the 85 1.8 has
2519A002
-A003
-A004
-A012

Could it be it has something to do with the market the lens was aimed for (and corresponding warranty)? Like US Warranty, EWS, or if it is grey imported.

Thanks in advance! :)

Heya,

Date, location.

Just google "Canon Date Codes" and you'll see tables that explain it all.

Very best,

No, I don't believe so. Take a look at the B&H listing for the 85. You'll see: Mfr # 2519A003. I believe this is the OP's question. Apparently he has seen different numbers in different sites and wonders why.

Yep - you're right. This is not about the date codes.

BH list both the US and imported version with the same manufacturer's number. So shouldn't have to do with warranties for different regions.

Funny thing is for example a swiss online store (I've seen this multiple). The same store lists the 24-70 IS in two versions:

Mfr # 6313B005, costs 1125 CHF.
Mfr # 6313B009, costs 1179 CHF.

As the number is a Canon number, sure those Axxx / Bxxx should mean something... Well I guess it is something internally Canon maybe.

Might be a long shot, but I was thinking in terms of lens revisions a la "silent changes" (as per Roger Cicala's definition...)
