Thanks! I'm flattered! I'd really like to get more into photography. I'm slowly learning, little by little!

It seems pretty tedious to manually set each focus point for every shot. I didn't know that's the way you were supposed to do it! Good to know!

With 19 possible point (keep in mind only one of those can actually be the true focus point) how is the camera to know where you want it to focus? When you select all 19 it just picks some point based an algorithm of likely spots, but it cant know if that rock 3 feet away is more important than the person 4 feet away.

I liked mine when I had it. I got some good photos, but it fell apart pretty quickly. The last photo has some gnarly flaring because I dropped it and got some dust/glass moved around.

If you've got a cracked one, no wonder you don't like it. <sg>

Hello bryce. I've followed this thread and it appears that your shots have gotten much better. The beauty of using this lens is really exemplified in your picture of the bolt with the shallow depth of field. Continue using the single focal point - it makes all the difference in the world. My hat is off to you for not giving up and following some suggestions.

thats why the best method for this is to simply choose all 19 points but pick a starting af point and it will track the subject across all other points

I found the 50/1.8 a decent lens really. I bought it when I was using 450D years ago & wasn't keen on it. I went FF 5D2 & loved it & never really had any issues with it. I did upgrade to 50/1.4 after a year or so but I didn't HAVE to - Only because I used it a lot & had the money to.

I noticed flecks in the glass inside the lens after about 3 months of use. Doesn't seem to affect IQ (which I personally find to be brilliant).

In my experience, the 50mm f/1.8 II is a great lens. Mine was acceptably sharp even wide open. I would advise you not to drop it, though. Here was mine wide open:

It tends to be a bit soft wide open. Stop down to F2 - F2.5, then it gets better. For the price, it's ok.

Yongnuo has a clone which is supposed to perform better at even lower price...... we're spoilt for choice! :-)
