To me the DPP "game-changer" was when they added the crop/straighten tool...it made it something you could really use without having to resort to another editor!

digitalparadise Awaiting the title ferry... More info | Mar 16, 2014 21:13 | #18 For me DPP lacks output sharpening. When I used it for conversions all my images wound up in PS for final editing and sharpening anyway. I still like to use it for pre-edits and searching for images. I like to keep everything to date so I update regularly. Once Adobe Process 2012 came out there was such an improvement in colour I finally switched. That was the main thing that held me back. Only thing that irked was that I made the switch to LR/ACR just as DLO came out. Can't win. Image Editing OK

I just started a free trial of Lightroom, maybe I don't know how to use it (ok, no maybe about it, still a neophyte), but so far I'm finding the basic editing functions like brightness, shadows and so on just as good in DPP and I actually like the sharpening that comes out of DPP better than what Lightroom does.

I follow the 3 phases of sharpening method. DPP only offers the first one - Capture which compensates for the AA filter. Final is for Output sharpening depending in the media you are viewing. digitalparadise Awaiting the title ferry... More info | Mar 21, 2014 00:25 | #25 It has been maybe 3 years since I have done any serious editing with DPP. Played around a bit. Highlight recovery between the two. Both pushed all the way to the left. I had forgotten how aggressive DPP sharpening is. You can sharpen it quite a bit. I noticed at 100% that when you get aggressive the background areas start to lose smoothness. That is what I like about the masking feature. If there is existing noise you are sharpening it. As I said just because of how I liked to work since the day I started using DPP as a converter I always did some sharpening using it followed by sending it to PS. Currently I also use edge sharpening for final sharpening in PS. For LR I just use the export screen options and am usually on Standard but choose High for finer detail. Also because I did go from DPP into PS mass edits were a nightmare with all the batching and actions. LR has cit my PP time in half. I prefer Adobe's resizing algorithms as well. There is nothing wrong with DPP. A very good product which I used for years. My only reason for finally switching was Adobe caught up in matching DPP colour profiles and Adobe Standard is pretty good now. Too much yellow before. You gotta work with what is most comfortable for you. Image Editing OK

digitalparadise Awaiting the title ferry... More info | Mar 21, 2014 12:38 | #29 Two in a row. I have no problems with anyone challenging me to anything I presented here. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong. I does not bother me, I view it as learning. The person stated that DPP sharpening was better and highlights were as "good" as DPP. The poster did not respond as I found helpful links and showed examples. Nothing I can do about that. Image Editing OK
