I have LC -E4 battery charger and now it’s failed to power on. I put drained LP-E4 battery and after which it’s not charging the battery at all. I checked my 1D MarkIII using other set of battery and its working fine. Looks like Drained battery caused my battery charger to non-functional.
1. Can someone confirm if drained battery can make charger non-functional?
2. Does anyone provide service to fix it? Canon don't
3. Will it be OK to buy new set of battery/Charger or should I just buy charger ?

If someone is willing to provide service, ping me offline.

Thanks,
Funtoosh

Did you try the "other" battery on your charger? If one of the cells in your battery pack has failed the charger may not recognise it. This is far more likely (and much cheaper) than the charger failing.
If the battery came with your 1D3 then it has already lasted very well for a Lithium battery so it may have just died. Note the camera may still work with the battery even if the voltage is too low (failing cell) for the charger.

Are you sure the AC line cord to the charger is good/ is the charger actually getting power to it?

Li-Ion chargers must not (!) try to charge batteries that has been drained too deeply. That's because charging an extremely depleted Li-Ion battery may result in overheating of the battery and potentially a fire.

Because of this, it's important to never store Li-Ion batteries for any longer time when empty - they should be given a bit of charge before stored. They shouldn't be fully charged if storing for a long time - they age faster if stored when full. But there must be enough charge in the battery so the self-discharge doesn't drain it below the level where the chargers will refuse to recharge it anymore.

Have you tried your charger with another battery.

I've never had that problems with my LC-E4's but have had that with AA chargers not recognizing a very weak battery. (usually putting the AA's in a cheap charger for a few minutes gets them up enough to then work in a "smart" charger). Try taking your charger to a dealer and have them put a battery in it and see if it works. Then you'll know if its the charger or your battery.

I am little scared of trying any new battery. Not sure which route to take , shall I buy new battery or shall I buy new charger? I am based out of India and bought these gear in US. In India people are found of Nikon then Canon. I will take this to Canon service center and see if they can help and provide me some guidance. Do you folks can help me with what charger I should go with ,incase I have to buy new set?

Thanks,
Funtoosh

1 Plug the Canon Battery Charger LC-E6, with the Canon Battery Pack LP-E6 inserted, into a power outlet.

2 Wait for 20 seconds.
If during this time the orange lamp blinks once per second, please continue to charge the battery until the green lamp lights up, which indicates a full charge. At this point, the battery is ready for normal use, and there is no need to follow the remaining steps. If during this time the orange lamp blinks rapidly, please move on to Step 3 of this procedure.

3 If the orange lamp blinks rapidly, remove the Canon Battery Pack LP-E6 from the Canon Battery Charger LC-E6.

4 Wait for 10 seconds.

5 Reinsert the Canon Battery Pack LP-E6 into the Canon Battery Charger LC-E6.

6 The Canon Battery Charger LC-E6’s orange lamp should begin to flash slowly (once per second) and charging will begin.
Please note: If the orange lamp blinks rapidly again, please repeat steps 3-5 above. If, after a third attempt, the Canon Battery Pack LP-E6 does not charge, please contact the Canon Customer Support Center for assistance.

7 Charge the Canon Battery Pack LP-E6 until the green lamp on the Canon Battery Charger LC-E6 illuminates, signifying that the Canon Battery Pack LP-E6 is fully charged.

Until you try your charger with a different battery or your battery on a different charger then you will not know which is faulty.
It is probably your battery, but that is not certain. If you have a decent camera shop locally they should have a used battery and or charger lying about for you to try.
