Just curious as to why there is zero talk/review/input on the PowerShot SX700 HS on this forum?

While this is not a camera I would be interested in, I have a friend that knows I'm a camera nut and asked about this camera- So naturally I came here to see what the buzz is- and it's non-existent!

Is there a different forum that would have some feedback on this camera besides here, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks in advance!!

Maybe because Canon only (sort of) announced it in Feb., a month after they'd announced the SX600 at CES with much fanfare. But couple a stealth product launch with a very new product and not too many people will have one yet.

I received my SX700 yesterday from B&H Photo. I took a pic from each camera (i.e. SX280 & SX700) of the same subjects. Each were done on 60X zoom, indoors, ambient & artificial lighting. The following settings were used accordingly:

Canon SX280

6581
1/8 F6.8 ISO1600

6583
"5 F6.8 ISO200

Canon SX700

21
1/8 F6.9 ISO1600

24
"5 F6.9 ISO200

The first shot was about 15' away and the target image is 2x3". The second set was about 25' away and the target is about 5X7"

The results are clear. Again this was only two pictures. I am still in the testing phase and today I will take both outdoors and mirror shots.

Here is a photograph I made with my SX700 of the statue of Justice atop the dome of New York City Hall in Manhattan. It was made from quite a distance at full 30X zoom.

I gave one to my spouse, the mode dial of our good old G3 broke, so a renewal was required.
The green box is OK, zoom range and IS is all she needs.
I can understand that canon left it out, but I am missing the option to shoot in RAW.

I received my SX700 two days ago and started taking test shots. The first day, I had the camera turned on for a total of one hour and took less than 20 shots and one very short video. The battery died. The next day with a fresh battery, was a repeat of the first day. What a complete disappointment this camera is. I love the styling, the feel (although I think that it is too light for the 30x zoom, even though the lens does not extend out very far, it is difficult to hold the camera steady). Also picture quality at the zoom end, doesn't seem to be very good.

I am very disappointed with the battery performance. At this rate I would need 10 batteries for a day of hiking. Will be returning it tomorrow. Now the quest continues for another camera

I have not had any problems with the battery life on mine, and I'm almost surprised at how long it lasts between charges. You may have a bad battery.

A few things.. Why would you have the camera turned on for an hour and only took 20 pictures? Are you spending the entire hour zooming in/out or ? if you are working the motor continuously for one hour, saying yo are only getting 20 pics from the battery is not really judging the battery life fairly. You may need to be more selective with how you use your camera if that's the case.

Something sounds wrong with the battery. I can turn mine on/off with long periods of on for 3-4 hr. and shoot video and still get 150-200 pictures out of one battery. I bought 2 Vivitar aftermarkets on Amazon and I get all day shooting and video.

I've been studying this type of camera as a walk-around + weird/artistic zoom capability. I finally decided on SX700, and started pricing. Mostly around $300 - $350 ... but I happened to go into an OfficeMax while my wife was shopping next door, and discovered one marked at $249 !!

I went home and overnight searched everything I could find on the web - that pricing had to be mis-marked. So this morning, I went in and bought it. Yah, they gave me the price, but the manager immediately removed the price tags (it was priced at $349 online). Will take 7-14 days for delivery (no shipping charge).

I found a similar pricing mistake about 4 years ago when the 128GB USB keys first came out.

I'll post again when I receive it.

Camera arrived yesterday. Actually smaller than I had thought. It fits easily into a side pocket (probably not for tight levis). I had thought I'd buy a small case for my belt, but instead I've moved my keys to my belt so they don't scratch the camera.

Took a few inside pics at objects I'd shot with other lens - in viewer they look very comparable in quality. I can see the difference - slightly darker - flash correct that. Tried ISO 3200 with no flash ... reasonable, but not equal to a f/1.8 lens. Can't make a full eval until I see in editor.

So far, I'm pleased - will post more...

edit: I was worried about where I would place my thumb - no thumb-pad, just all buttons where I usually place my thumb. Solution: The height is so small, I can place my thumb on the bottom of the camera - that also make my hold on the camera more stable.

I ordered one of these as a walk-around to keep in the car. I got a good deal by UK standards; £149.

The idea is to put a waterproof housing on it for trips to the beach. I used a Nikon Coolpix AW110 this year and while great to take into the ocean, the picture quality is just lacking.

Hopefully get it next week.

This pic is the first I shoot with each lens. I didn't know that signature even existed until I cropped a 85mm shot. The distance is about 15-16 feet, room lighting, full-auto. Editing was only small sharpening - nothing else.

This shot I just expanded zoom until I could read the signature... which turned out to be 135mm.

This shot is a light hanging from the ceiling in the next room of my brokers office. I saw the off-center support of the light and thought it was interesting. Since I had my SX700 in my pocket, I took it out to capture the "art".

Distance was about 20 feet.
