I was walking on a trail quietly and a bobcat appeared and walked towards me. I quickly got on my knees, dialed in my exposure, and shot three frames. Then, I got to my feet and he kept walking towards me. I only could watch him now because of the mfd of the lens. He continued to walk two feet by my side and sat a directly behind me for one minute. Then crept back into the forest. Excuse the harsh side lighting.

Wow that is amazing. It looks similar to a domestic cat just taller and more lanky. I am surprised it came that close to you.

Me to, he is probably used to all the people that walk the trails.

My one and only experience with such a critter was years ago. I was quietly walking down an old logging skid road Deer hunting when I heard a commotion in the brush next to me. All of a sudden a rabbit came hauling freight out of the brush with a bobcat right on it's hinny. Couldn't have been more than a couple feet or so away. Got the blood flowing to say the least. Nice capture and what I would consider a once in a life time opportunity which you took advantage of very nicely. Thanks for sharing.

Cool pic! Cool little story too. I've often contemplated going to a 300mm prime for wildlife (for a hand-holdable option on a budget), but the flexibility of a zoom would sure seem to help grab a shot like you did.

Thanks, I used a 600mm fixed lens not a zoom. The 300 mm f4 is a great lens!

Cool! We have coyotes here that will do that too, mostly in the national parks where they are used to humans.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

While golfing at Torrey Pines in San Diego, one walked right on the green while we were putting. Stopped and checked us out for a bit, then wandered off. I don't think we finished putting on that hole... Did not seem bothered by us either. This one in San Diego was a little more stocky.

BTW, great shot!

That was going to be my guess as well. On another note, are you the RikWriter from clubdsm back in the day? (not what others think, it was a car club)

Either way, very nice capture!
