I was considering selling my Tokina 11-16mm to replace it with a Canon 16-35mm II.

Upon inspecting the Tokina, I seem to have lost a screw from the under-side of the lens somehow. I've been in touch with Tokina but heard nothing back.

Does anyone know anywhere I can find a replacement screw, or even just what size I should be looking for?

Thanks,

Welcome to POTN :)

This is a complete shot in the dark and excuse me if it sounds silly but you might ask a jeweller.

are there more of the same screws that attach the base. can you unscrew one of the other ones and match it up. i would try a hobby shop as they have a whole bunch of very small screws that are metric.

Thanks guys, I hadn't thought of jewellers or hobby shops. I'll get looking around,

It's this screw that I'm missing...

$h*t happens ;)

Hey! Here's a thought... how about a local camera repair shop?

Micro-Tools (external link) would certainly have a replacement and sells small parts like this in small quantity. However, you need to know the size to order (and might have to shorten a slightly-too-long screw to fit).

McMaster-Carr (external link) probably would have it too. But again you need to know the size to order, might need to fine tune the size... and they mostly only sell in large quantity (and what would you do with 100 screws that size?).

If you had a screw size checker set (external link) (for diameter/thread) and measuring tools (for length, though it doesn't need to be exact if you cut down to size), you could remove one of the other screws around the perimeter of the lens to determine the size (there are probably three or four identical screws).

Note: If you cut a screw down to size, you often need to dress the threads with a die (tap and die set in micro metric sizes (external link)).

I'd use some thread locker (Locktite "Blue") on the replacement screw.... carefully so that none got into the mechanisms underneath.

Or just take it to a local camera repairer, who probably has the replacement screw. Repairers often strip junked cameras and lenses for usable parts and have a stash that would make a squirrel proud. Especially common things such as screws.
