I recently purchased a 5D mkII , and watched a few videos for setting up movie mode.

I manually set everything, but I noticed last night when I was recording. When I move a dimly lit area to an area with more light the video lighting decreases or increases. At first I was thinking I had left Auto ISO on but I checked and I was shooting at ( 24fps, HTP Disabled, 320 ISO, shutter at 50)

Any suggestions or tips? Sorry if I worded it wrong.

I think the camera will automatically correct to any settings it needs for you to get the correct exposure.
If you take a photo it will adapt as such to get something.Set the camera up for example on a photo with a TV shutter speed that is too fast for the light you have and it will alter the shutter to get the photo,i e you set 200th of a sec but the camera needs 1/40th of a sec it will drop down to 1/40th.
If you have set everything to manual then i'm not sure-i use TV shutter priority mode and it will correct within reason.

I watched a view videos online and they spoke about the settings to use, but I'm still getting that effect.
I reset everything, and tried again still same thing.

I think I'm just probably missing a step.

What is the exact lighting we're talking about? If there are fluorescent bulbs or tubes involved there's a possibility their cycle speeds are throwing off your camera. What setting is changing when your camera auto adjusts the exposure? You need to give us all this info. You also need to go into your menu during video mode and make sure a couple things are correct:

1. 'Movie Exposure' is set to MANUAL and not auto (this is a menu item strictly in video mode)
2. Auto Lighting Optimizer is set to OFF
3. Peripheral Illumination Correction is set to OFF
4. All auto options should be disabled...such as exposure compensation, auto lcd brightness etc, til you get to the root of the problem.
5. Learn about and try out AE locking.
6. Update your firmware if necessary. The half-decade old firmwares when the 5D2 first released did not allow fully manual video, it does now.

Errr...I know youre just trying to help but please don't guess around if you don't have experience with video mode or with the OP's issue, you're just confusing people more (no offense).

Video should always be shot at 1/50th if in PAL regions or 1/60th for NTSC regions. Just the unwritten word. That goes for 24P as well as 25 or 30fps.

Cheers,
Mark.

You're definitely seeing the Auto Lighting Optimizer. Canon realized this was a "bug" and removed the ability to use ALO in manual movie mode on later cameras, like the 5D3.
