I tried to search but couldn't find anything previously posted. Right now the only lens I can consistently get to work on my 5d3 is my Sigma 1.4.

My canon 50 1.4 and pancake sometimes return an error 40 when they are on the body.

I have a 70-200 f/4 L and 100 f/2.8 L and when I put them on they both display " m focus" even though they aren't set to manual. Pushing any button doesn't do a darn thing, won't focus and shutter won't fire. Sometimes even with a full battery the camera won't power on with these lenses on, if I switch to my sigma everything is fine.

I know my 100mm works on another body. My firmware is 1.2.3 which I believe is the latest. I've reset the camera to factory settings and nothing has resolved my problem. I've tried multiple CF cards and the battery is fully charged.

I had sent the body to canon in November for an error 40 and they had to send it overseas to get it fixed. I'm guessing it was never fully resolved and based on what's happening I may need to send all canon lenses and the body in again?

I'm writing here in case there is something really obvious I'm missing.

It was just factory cleaned at the end of November, would it really be that bad already? I can certainly try!

Yeah, and I just cleaned them all again. Same problem except mostly the error 40 instead of M Focus problem. I'm guessing this thing is heading back to the repair shop.

This recently happened on my new 5d3, I had to send it to Canon and they said they replaced the lower circuit board.Maybe you are experiencing the same problem.

Error 40 is related to power source issues. are you using factory batteries? have you tried pulling the coin battery and reseating?

Do you know about how much that cost?

Factory battery. I'll look up pulling the coin battery, that's the same as resetting or rebooting the camera isn't it?

No luck, I'm guessing CPS is really going to pay for itself this year. Then again insuring all of this gear when I send it is not cheap!

I'm just curious was the camera purchased new from a US authorized dealer. I just cant see why
Canon would have the camera shipped overseas for repair as you mentioned. Any way I hope you get
it squared away.
