22 months old, and just like many kids, a little ham in front of the camera. Shot in RAW, just standard RAW processing and a little vignette.Natural light.

Beautiful capture. What lens did you use for this shot?

Thanks for the comments, all.

Used the 1DX + 24-70 2.8 mk2 for the shot.

Beautiful shot of her. I really like the light.

The background could do with a tidy up next time though; the chest on the left is ok - in fact it matches nicely with the chair, but the cardboard box on the right and the green thing visible through the chair are a bit distracting. The cardboard box is the more distracting out of the two to me. Not sure if it was posed or a quick capture -- I'm assuming it's a posed shot given how good the light is, so take my feedback in the context of that; clearly trying to tidy a room before a quick oportunistic capture is not practical

On a side note, wow, i really like the look of the 24-70 mk2...

Thanks for the feedback and C&C. Believe it or not, it was a quick capture and not a posed shot. I was laying on the floor just shooting candid while she played in her room. Here's a shot a few minutes earlier when she was on the other side of me:

You can see the window on her left which was the light source for the first picture in the thread. And mom in the background on the bottom right. I agree that some cleanup would certainly help the shot, but since it was a quick capture, I didn't put too much into it. If I decide to enlarge and print, I most certainly agree on cleaning up what you mentioned.

And the 24-70 mk2 is an amazing lens. I had the mk1 for years and was hesitant to replace it, but am so glad I did. Amazingly sharp at both ends and fantastic colors. Certainly worth the money.

^^^ That's a lovely one too.

On the original I believe you and it's a great shot for a quick grab, well done!! :) You have some seriously nice light coming into that window! If you can bribe her into sitting still to pose for you, you could get some exceptional portraits shot there I reckon.

What's always pushed me to primes over zooms (asside from the DoF possibilities obviously) is just the look -- it's hard to describe, but I'm addicted to how my 85L renders -- not jsut wide open, but at even at f2.8 or narrower it just has a certain something that's hard to describe, but your 24-70 shots have a somewhat prime like look about them. Sorry if I'm rambling, but you have the 85L so you probably know what I'm talking about :)

I have been toying with the idea of bying the 24-70 -- i've been chasing my 18 month old daughter around with the 85L and while I love the results, but there are times when a zoom would be useful - esp indoors. I bought the 24-105 and was unimpressed. It was sharp enough, but it just seemed to lack something; it just looked a little flat. Dunno if it was being just stuck at f4 which i'm incompetent at or what but I couldn't get happy with it. How would you compare how the 24-70 renders vs the 85L? I know it's a bit apples and oranges, but you have both so would love to hear what you think about them in terms of the general look of the photos coming out of them (not sharpness, but more colour, contrast, bokeh quality etc).

For me, it's very tough to get a good gauge on the differences in quality between the two because the quality is so similar. I would say they are equally sharp and the color is quite similar. Contrast and bokeh are close as well, but I feel the contrast is a bit better on the 24-70 and the bokeh is a little better on the 85, but only at the 1.2 and similar. At 2.8 and closer, the 24-70 I feel is a bit better. I haven't shot many images of my daughter with the 85 1.2 because of the slow focus, and I tend to shoot her when she is more active. She doesn't have the attention span yet to sit for me for more than 30 seconds =) Well, unless she has a toy or something to play with.

I will get a few pictures of her with each this weekend and post a few results for comparison.

Got bored waiting to took a punt and bought one

I've only one a little poking around the house with it, and i've not uploaded anythign to PC yet..... will do some proper shooting this weekend :)
