How do I prevent Lightroom from opening every time I put a dvd with pictures or memory card in? I only want it to open when I want it to.

Lightroom 4.4 on vista.
You can't disable in Lightroom itself?

Yes I checked. I'm a MAC user and in the system preferences under CD's and DVD's I can change what opens when I insert a dvd. Not a lots if help to you but it may point you in the right direction. Maybe in the Control Panel or in the dvd player section wherever that is? Been a long time since I used a PC.

In the Edit/Preferences dialog, in the "General" tab, there is an option as to whether to show the Import dialog if a card is "detected". Unselect that option.

That being said, I sometimes see "goofy" behavior -- I do keep that option selected and sometimes Lightroom opens with the Import dialog up, but sometimes it doesn't. Oh Well, I just chalk it up to software and our OS systems doing "funny" stuff, no big deal.

As to signalling the OS to choose whether or not to open a particular type of file with LR or some other program, you can open your Explorer/file browser, go to an image file, right-click it, choose "Open With..." and if Lightroom shows up you can remove it, but I don't know if that will solve your "automatically opens when a card is inserted" problem. I'd first try my Edit/Preferences suggestion.

Cool. For me it was Lightroom/Preferences. Never knew what that for and mine was unchecked. Good to know. Thanks.

Thanks. It's annoying that it pops open every time. Real annoying.

Well, do what I advised, Edit/Preferences, and let us know how it goes!
