I am planning to buy Tamron 17-50 2.8

Someone said that the non-vc version is greater than the VC.

Which one should I buy ?

If I turn off the VC in VC version, can i get the same quality as non-vc version lens?

Get the non-VC, the image quality is really that much better.

And no, turning off the VC won't help with image quality.

Non VC or Gray Sigma. Pick whichever side feels better.

I've had the non VC model for years. It looks a bit battered and bruised as it's had some hard use in some very harsh environments.

It just keeps producing the goods.

I have the non-VC too. Even if they were equally sharp, I don't find VC useful enough at that focal length to pay the extra price.
I haven't compared the sharpness, but internet experts keep saying the non-VC is sharper.

I used the non vc for years and only recently sold it since it wouldn't work on my 6D. I was very happy with it and never felt I wanted VC. I actually wish I didn't have to sell it to finance my new Tokina. It was nice and compact when compared to that beast.

Edit: my only issue with it was focus hunting, and bad focus if it did lock, in low light.

Im in the same query ... I want to upgrade my kit lens, and dont want to shell out the cash for the canon. I have a Tamron 28-75, and I love that lens, so I figured I would look to see what was being said about their 17-50 options, and so far everything I have read has been that the non-VC is a bit sharper but that the VC is sharp enough except when all down to 2.8 it has some mild unsharp edges.

I still havent made up my mind ... what sucks is I found a local store (Houston Camera Exchange) that has a used VC version, but I feel like they're asking a bit too much for it ($469 used with no box). Ill prob go take some test shots with it this weekend, and then hopefully i can find someone with a non-VC that will let me take some test shots as well.

So anyways ... have you made your purchase decision?

I have the non-VC and really like it. Really sharp. I was looking at getting a straight from Japan Sigma 17-50 2.8 for a pretty low price. http://www.ebay.com …enses&hash=item4d131b0a8d (external link)

I bought the non vc and loved it specially for the price. Really no need for stabilization with that range. Still have it but it sits since getting my 5D.
